Place Value and Value of a Digit in Numbers up to 100 000

I. Learning Outcomes
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
• Identify the value and place value according on a digit number
• Organize the place value and value of a digit numbers up to 100 000
• Relate the use of place value in numbers in our everyday lives

Topic: Place Value and Value of a Digit in Numbers up to 100 000
References: Mathematics 4 (Lesson 4, pp. 9-11)
Materials: Laptop, PowerPoint Presentation, Charts, Pentel pen & Instructional

A.2 Prayers
One student will lead the prayer:
“Before we start our class let us

• 17 it is a combination of one (1) and
seven (7) digit.
• 175 is a combination of digits; one
(1), seven (7) and five (5).
• How about the 8,375? What is the
combination?

WHAT IS PLACE VALUE?


• Place Value defined as the value
represented by a digit in a number on
the basis of its position in the
number;

The teacher will show an actual instructional


material (Place Value Wheel) to demonstrate
how to identify place value.
Always remember that the place value of a
digit is always ten times as the place value
to its right.
(Provided by examples)

WHAT IS VALUE? Value is the


numerical worth of a digit. Value of a digit
can also determine by multiplying the digit
by its place value.

Certain steps that needs to be follow to get


the value of each digit in a given number:
Step 1: determine the place
value of each digit.
Step 2: multiply each digit to its
place value.
(More examples will be given)

D. Application
(The class will be divided into
3 groups)

The teacher will be giving a


number that they need to write
down on the table. They will outline the corresponding value
of the number in the column above.
IV. Generalization

This is to sum up the entire discussion, the teacher will mention all these important
pointers to remember to effectively acquire conceptual understanding of Place Value and
Value of a Digit in Numbers up to 100 000.
