How to set up an altar for Oya
1. Find a nice location in your home for your altar. Ideal places for Oya's
altar would be in your office or study room. If you don't have an extra
room, place it anywhere you feel comfortable. You can use a small
wooden table or bookshelf and cleanse it with sage before use.
2. Get a statue of Oya or print an image of her and frame it. Cleanse the
statue or picture and place it on your altar. Know that the statue serves
as a vessel for Oya's energy.
3. Get a purple or maroon candle and place it on your altar. Add a glass of
spring water, river pebbles, and incense. If your altar's big enough, put
2 swords or machetes on it. Feel free to personalize your Oya altar
however you see fit.

Oya Evocation Ritual
1. Find a time to be alone, grab a chair, your offerings, and set it aside.
2. Light the candles and incense on your altar, recite Oya's prayer and
give your offerings.
3. Now sit comfortably, close your eyes and imagine Oya's statue on
your altar glowing with light bright as lightning. Imagine this light
beaming from the statue into your chest and encompassing your
whole body. Visualize this energy surrounding you for 7 minutes.
4. Repeat this ritual every day or at least every Thursday to evoke Oya's
energy. Also, make sure to remove any food offerings from your atar
before they go bad.
Oya Courage Ritual
1. On a Thursday, light the candle and incense on Oya's altar and
write down 9 ways in which you wish to be powerful. Place this
petition under her candle.
2. Offer Oya a glass of red wine and 9 plums. Pour yourself a glass of
wine as well.
3. Toast Oya and yourself, feeling grateful for Oya's help, and watch
the candle burn as you drink your wine.
Oya Cleansing Ritual
1. Cook a meal containing rice, eggplants, and fish. As you cook this
meal, keep your mind on Oya cleansing whatever you desire from
your life.
2. Put the food in a biodegradable plate or container and leave it at the
gates of a cemetery along with 9 pennies. This is best done at night.
Make your presence known by saying Oya's name 9 times and tell
her why you've come and what you need.
3. Take a different route home and cleanse yourself by taking a warm
bath with sea salt in the water. Go to bed in clean clothes and fresh
sheets. This completes the ritual.
