Introduction to the PHILOSOPHY of the Human Person

GRADE12

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students must be able to:
a. Identify the essence of true freedom;
b. discuss a moral responsibility and accountability in their exercise of freedom; and
c. execute the exercise of good judgment in choice.

Explain:
The teacher corrects the ideas from the
previous activity and explains the
concepts of freedom.
 Freedom is an intrinsic and essential
property of the person. This means the
human person by nature is a free being
and that is in his or her nature to seek
FREEDOM. An important indication of
human freedom is the ability to make
choices and perform actions. The learner may also share their additional
ideas with the class.
 Freedom is rooted in the human
person’s self-determination and the  Freedom gives us the choice to
exercise of intellect and free will. This undertake one of the possible
means that a person’s every action is actions, it enables us to come
freely determined and these actions
define him or her. up with new choices.
 Freedom also requires a degree of
control from the person who exercises it.
A person becomes freer when he or she
exercises control over himself or herself,
a person becomes less free when he or
she is no longer in control of himself or
herself and instead controlled by other
forces.

KINDS OF FREEDOM

Physical Freedom: Is the absence of


any physical restraint.

Psychological Freedom: This is called


freedom of choice.

Moral Freedom: To uphold human


dignity and goodness.

TWO ELEMENTS OF FREEDOM

Voluntariness: Refers to the ability of a


person to act out of his or her own free
will and self-determination.

Responsibility: Refers to accountability


for his or her actions and their
consequences.

Elaborate:
Identify and analyze the following situation.

Supposing these situations happened. Give


your recommendations on how the persons
involved can exercise freedom more
responsibly.

1. Julia’s family is well-known for being


wealthy and influential. However, her
family faced hard times in the previous
year. Her father’s business closed and
they were forced to sell most of their
possessions and live a much simpler
life. Julia, however, wishes to maintain
her image among her friends. She has
resorted to borrowing money from
relatives to keep up with her well-off
barkada.
2. Mang Rony’s meat stall has been very
profitable these days. He has been
tampering with the weighing scales and
has been selling less meat at increased
prices. One time, some meat went stale
and he decided to mix it with the other
fresh meat so he could still sell it.
Evaluate:
The teacher will present a PowerPoint
presentation of the evaluation.
You are given ten minutes to supply the
correct answer.

IV. ASSIGNMENT: Write a REFLECTION

a. Reflect on your experience and identify a moment when you believe you “had no
choice” regarding your actions or decisions, or you made a choice that you

b. Reflect on a problem or dilemma you are currently facing. Create a graphic organizer
outlining the possible choices you can make and their corresponding consequences.
