Peer Review Activity Sheet

The goals of this peer review assignment as to help improve your classmate’s op-ed by highlighting
its strengths and areas for improvement. Below you will find some initial questions to help you with
your critique. Remember to be thoughtful, constructive, and respectful in your review.
Content
• Does the author have a clear argument? What was it? Is it logically coherent? How could
it be improved?
• Is evidence presented to support the argument? Is it convincing evidence? Is the evidence
comprehensive?
• Does the draft discuss counterarguments? What are they? Are they presented fairly or have
they been “straw-manned”?
• Has a policy recommendation been included? What is it? Is it consistent with the argument
and evidence presented?

Organization
• Were the basic sections (Introduction, Conclusion, Body) adequate? If not, what is
missing/could be improved?
• Was the material ordered in a way that was logical, clear, easy to follow? Explain.

Citations
• Was the literature used appropriate for the topic?
• Did the writer cite sources adequately and appropriately? Note any incorrect formatting.
• Were all the citations in the text listed in the Bibliography/Worked Cited section? Note
any discrepancies.

Grammar and Style


• Were there any grammatical or spelling problems? Note them down.
• Was the writer’s writing style clear?
• Were the paragraphs and sentences cohesive? Did the paragraphs have a topic
sentence/index position? Explain.

Overall
• What are the primary strengths of this paper?
• What are the most important areas that require improvement?
