Our Search for God
We Celebrate More often than not, we try to search for God in different places. Little do God's
Message we realize that God is always with us. We do not have to look far. He is faithful to us and
to the covenant He has made.
In the Old Testament, the Israelites would always fall into sin against
faithfulness to Yahweh. They were disunited as a people. They were an easy
prey to oppressors and invaders. They lack the faith of winning and victory. The book
of Samuel describes the unceasing attempts of the leaders of the Israelites from oppression and
weariness of all their failures. The Israelites long to have a king who will rule over them. They
thought that it is through a king that will bring them victory over battles. This led to the
establishment of Israel's Monarchy.
Samuel is the transition figure from the tribal stage to the kingdom period. He is known as the last judge and the
first of the prophets. He is also a priest. God chose Samuel to guide the people. Samuel spoke of God's condi-tion:
God will remain as the only true King of Israel; the human king must only be a representative of God to His people
and must be subject to the Mosaic law, admonitions, and guidance of God's prophets in working out the nation's
future; and it is important that the king and the whole people remain obedient and faithful to God.
Although kings have jurisdiction and political power over the people and the land which they govem they are still subjected to follow
God's law. God and His laws are over and above any human law. God is over and above any human king.
David offended God through the sins he committed. He took many wives although
this had been done by other kings, this was forbidden by God.Aside from that, he
arranged the murder of Uriah who was the husband of the woman he loved. Uriah was
among his soldiers. He placed him on the frontline of the battlefield to be killed so that he
could marry his wife who he had already seduced.
What made David different from Saul is his sincere repentance of his sins.Though
David had sinned, he repented for having offended God. David's sincere repentance,
faithfulness, and love for God pleased Him. David writes psalms for God conveying this.
The book of Psalms is attributed to David since he would write prayer-psalms for God.
Most common themes of the psalms are praise, thanksgiving, and lamentations.
Aside from this Solomon had many wives. Solomon's marriages to for-eign
women were made for political reasons. He built shrines for his wives and traders.
Thus, this led to the impurity of Israel's religion which strictly forbade such marriages
and the tolerance of pagan worship.
Israel's monarchy reminds us that the kings and leaders are mere instru-ments of
God. It is God who should be the center of the nation and our personal lives. We can learn
from monarchy in the Old Testament that we should remain obedient to God's command.
If we as a people, will learn to put our complete trust in God and follow Jesus' way then
peace, progress and unity will be achieved. Jesus is Lord and King of all. He was sent by
God so that we may know what true kingship is.
The Kings of Israel were unfaithful to God. But it was David who repented
and changed his ways. God forgave him. God loves even the sinners

ble scholars cite this passage as the longest conversation of Jesus in a direct iotation. This just shows the
relevance of this story in the Scriptures. Jesus e Messiah is the Savior of all. Read how Jesus revealed the truth
of His entity to the Samaritan.
A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” His disciples had gone into the
town to buy food. The Samaritan woman said to Him, “How can you, a Jew, ask me,a Samaritan woman, for a drink?”
(For Jews use nothing in common with Samaritans.)Jesus answered and said to her,“If you knew the gift of God and
who is saying to you,'Give me a drink,' you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water.” [The
woman] said to Him, “Sir, you do not even have a bucket and the cistern is deep; where then can you get this living
water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us this cistern and drank from it himself with his children
and his flocks?”
Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again; but whoever drinks the water I shall give will
never thirst; the water I shall give will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me
this water, so that I may not be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water."
Jesus said to her, “Go call your husband and come back.” The woman answered and said to Him, “I do not have a husband.”
Jesus answered her, “You are right in saying, 'I do not have a husband.' For you have had fivc husbands, and the one you have now is not
your husband. What you have said is true.”
The woman said to Him,Sir,I can see that you are a prophet. Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain; but you people say that
the place to worship is in Jerusalem."
Jesus said to her, “Believe me, woman, the hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in
Jerusalem. You people worship what you do not understand; we worship what we understand, because salvation is from the Jews. But
the hour is coming, and is now here, when true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and truth; and indeed the Father seeks such
people to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and truth.”
The woman said to Him, “I know that the Messiah is coming, the one called the Anointed; when He comes, He will tell us everything."
Jesus said to her,“I am He,the one who is speaking with you.”
Jn 4:4-26
God's Message
We portray roles in our lives. Our lives are governed by responsibilities that make us loving persons. Serving others even in
small and ordinary ways when done extraordinarily can bring great contributions to the lives of other people. The seal of
our country is not just an emblem. It is a call for us to be united as people and to be eager to serve our country and one
another.
The Father put His seal upon Jesus. This seal signifies that He was sent by the Father on a mission. His name says what He
came for. The name Jesus in Hebrew means “God saves.” Jesus is the Christ because He is the long-awaited Messiah and Savior.
Both the Greek word Christos and the Hebrew word Messiah means “the Anointed One.” Jesus is the anointed one, the One
sent by the Father to save us from our sins. The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains that“Christ” became the name proper
to Jesus because He accomplished perfectly the divine mission that“Christ” signifies. In effect, in Israel those consecrated to God
for a mission that he gave were anointed in His name. This was the case for kings, for priests and, in rare instances, for prophets.
This had to be the case all the more so for the Messiah whom God would send to inaugurate His kingdom definitively. The story
of Jesus conversing with the Samaritan woman shows that Jesus is the Christ, the Savior of humankind. He came not only for the
Jews but for all humankind.
time of Christ, the Jews would not pass through that city. The Samaritans were detested by
the Jews. The reason behind this dates back during the time Israel in 721 Bc, he took the
ten of tribes of Israel into captive in Babylon. This compromised their race and their
religion. The population which was mainly Jewish later on intermarried with Gentile
immigrants. Thus, their religion became a mix of Judaism and pagan beliefs.
The dispute grew even stronger during the time of the reconstruction of the temple
which was destroyed. The Jews refused the help offered by the Samaritans.Animosity and
hatred grew between the Jews and the Samaritans. The Jews had no social nor religious
interaction with the Samaritans. They were not allowed to worship in Jerusalem. Samaritan
worship was mixture of paganism and a partial following of the Pentateuch.Samaritans
worshiped on Mt. Gerizim, Jews worshiped in Jerusalem. This animosity continuedon until
the time of Jesus. But Jesus did not hesitate to pass by Samaria unlike other Jews who
would go about in another route. He crossed boundaries when He talked to a Samaritan.
He did not observe the social norm when He asked the Samaritan woman for a drink, that
is why the woman was surprised when Jesus talked to her. Jesus showed greater respect to
human dignity than social norms. He chose to cross boundaries of cultural and social
standards during those times to show that He came to save not just the Jews but the whole
world regardless of race and ethnicity.
Jesus crossed socio-cultural boundaries not only out of His duty to save humankind but out of His deep love for
all of us. He showed us to respect the human dignity of each person.
God sent Jesus not only to proclaim God's Kingdom but to be the Good News for
us. The reasons why God sent His Son are:
+ God sent His Son as an offering for our sins.
+He came to reveal to us God's love, that we might have life through him.
+He came to be our model for sanctity.
+God wanted us to share in Jesus' divine sonship.

We Celebrate Life The importance of life is seen on how it is lived. Read the story on how a
tree found happiness in giving.
Once there was a tree and she loved the little boy. Every day the boy would come and he would gather her leaves and make them into
crowns and play king of the forest.
He would climb up her trunk and swing from her branches. When he was tired, he would sleep in her shade. The boy loved the
tree very much. And the tree was happy.
But time went by, the boy grew older. The tree was often alone. Then one day the boy came to the tree and the tree
said:“Come,Boy,come and climb up my trunk and swing from my branches and eat apples and play in my shade and be happy.”
“I am too big to climb and play,” said the boy. “I want to buy things and have fun. I want some money. Can you give me some money?”
“I'm sorry,” said the tree, “but I have no money. I have onlyleaves and apples. Take my
apples, Boy, and sell them in city. Then you will have money and you'll be happy.”
And so the boy climbed up the tree and gathered her apples and carried them away. And
the tree was happy.
But the boy stayed away for a long time and the tree was sad.And then one day the boy came
back and the tree shook with joy,and she said:“Come,Boy, come and climb up my trunk and
swing from my branches and eat apples and play in my shade and be happy.”
“I am too busy to climb trees,” said the boy. “I want a house to keep me warm,”he said. “I want a
wife and I want children, and so I need a house. Can you give me a house?”
“I have no house,” said the tree. “The forest is my house but you may cut off my branches and
build a house. Then you will be happy.”
And so the boy cut off her branches and carried them away to build a house. And the
tree was happy.
But the boy stayed away for a long time and the tree was sad. And when he came back, the tree
was so happy she could hardly speak.
“I am too old and sad to play.” said the boy. “I want a boat that will take me away from here. Can you give me a boat?”
And after a long time the boy came back again. “I am sorry, Boy," said the tree, “but I
have nothing left to give you--my apples are gone.”
“My teeth are too weak for an apple," said the boy. n12:24
“My branches are gone,” said the tree. “You cannot swing on them-”
“I am sorry” sighed the tree. “I wish that I could give you something... But I have nothing left. I am just an old stump.I am
sorry...”
“I don't need very much now,” said the boy. “Just a quiet place to sit and rest.I am very tired.”
“Well” said the tree, straightening herself up as much as she could,“well,an old stump is good for sitting and resting. Come,
Boy, sit down...and rest.”

God's Word
In times past, God spoke in partial and various ways to our ancestors through the prophets; in these last days, He spoke to us through a
Son, whom He made heir of all things and through whom He created the universe, who is the reful-gence of HHis glory, the very
imprint of his being, and who sustains all things by His mighty word. When He had accomplished purification from sins, He took His seat
at the right hand of the Majesty on high,as far superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
Heb 1:1-4
God's Message
The story of the giving tree shows us how much the tree loves the boy that in her act of love she gives selflessly of herself.
Love is closely related to giving. A true act of love selflessly and unconditionally seeks the good of the one who is loved.
Jesus in His obedience to the Father and His deep love for humankind selflessly gave Himself up to die for our salvation. A
study of the historical Jesus, that is Jesus who lived with us in his earthly life, will open our eyes to the plan of salvation
that God the Father has for us. It is important to understand that while having a human body, Jesus remains to be divine.
In the celebration of the Holy Mass, we profess our faith. We declare our belief that:
For our sake He (Jesus) was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died, was buried, and rose again on the
third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right band of the Father.
A deep understanding of what we profess will help us deepen our faith in Jesus the Messiah who is seated at
the right hand of the Father. In the Nicene Creed, we proclaim, “For our sake Jesus was crucified under Pontius
Pilate; He suffered, died and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.”
Crucifixion was the worst possible form of capital punishment for criminals. Aside from the slow death a person
has to endure, the humiliation was most difficult to bear since it was a public persecution. Jesus suffered this type of
punishment even if He was not a criminal. God could have chosen an easier manner of death without undergoing
tremendous physical and emotional pain but He didn't. The sufferings of Christ serve as an example of a deep
understanding of true love. It teaches us to remain strong even under trials and difficulties. It reminds us that
whenever we suffer for the good of the other, we share in the suffering of Christ.
Jesus is our Redeemer. This means that He offered His sufferings and death as a
fitting sacrifice in satisfaction for our sins, and for us to regain the right to be called
children of God and heirs of heaven.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right band of the Father.
We read this from Mark 16:19 and John 20:17.The Ascension of Christ
fulfills the Old Testament prophesy in Exodus 13:22 and Psalm 110:1.The
Ascension event concludes Jesus' ministry on earth. It brought His human
body and soul into the Trinity. Christ the King had earned for men infinite
grace and had gone home to heaven to prepare a place for us in heaven.
We profess Jesus seated at the right hand of the Father. This signifies the foundation
of the Messiah's kingdom, the fulfillment of the prophet Daniel's vision (Dan 7:14)
concerning Jesus, the Son of Man: “To Him was given dominion and glory and kingdom,
that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him; His dominion is an everlasting
dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.”
After this event, the apostles became witnesses of the “Kingdom [that] will have no end.”
We should thank Jesus for all His sacrifices, and adore and revere Him as our
Lord and Savior. At the right hand of the Father, Jesus intercedes for us before the
Father so that we have a continuing outpouring of the Spirit as we go forth
evangelizing and witnessing His Kingdom.
Jesus Christ entered into the glory of heaven seated at the right of the Father.
He exercises for all eternity supreme authority of a King over all creatures.
Psalm 110

Dressed in his doctor's gown he went in to see her. He recognized her at once. He went back

After a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill

Eph1:20-22
God's Message
We await for the coming of Jesus. As we wait we prepare ourselves spiritu-ally and store goodness, justice in, and love on
earth so that we may reap it when the time comes. The story entitled A Glass of Milk Paid in Full describes how goodness
is rewarded. The simple act of charity that we do here on earth will merit us grace from God to assist us here on earth and
at the same time store riches in heaven. It is through God's grace and and not on our own can we merit heaven. Our
catechism teaches us that thecharity of Christ is the source of all our merits before God, and that through the love of God
for us humankind the gates of heaven were opened.
In our celebration of the Holy Mass as a congregation we acclaim:“We proclaim your death, O Lord, and profess your
resurrection until you come again.” Jesus ascended in heaven forty days after His Resurrection.Though in heaven we are
assured of His guidance more over we await for His second coming.
The Second Coming of Christ is what we Catholics refer to as the parousia;which is the Greek word
for“coming”or“presence.”The Catechism teaches us that Jesus Christ will pronounce the final word on all history. We shall
know the ultimate meaning of the whole work of creation, the entire economy of salvation, and understand the
marvelous ways by which His providence led everything towards its final end. The Last Judgment will reveal that God's
justice triumphs over all the injustices.
When will Jesus come again? Jesus will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead. This will happen on
Judgment day when the final victory over evil will become evident. Everyone will be judged accordingly, whether he/she
accepted or refused His grace. God's victory over the final unleashing of evil will be total and complete and will culminate
in the Last Judgment.
Anticipatng Jesus' Second Coming should bring us to do good works, acts of justice, and love for others. The parousia is all about the reign of
the justice of God over all.
No one knows when the Second Coming of Christ will happen. We should not make false interpretations as to
the time of its coming or the details of the signs. Interpretations of these biblical texts should not be literal. The
Church tells us to focus instead on the need for living the Gospel as a preparation for the Parousia whenever it may
happen. Our focus therefore should be on the basic truths about the Parousia. The Catechism for Filipino Catholics
enumerates five basic truths:
+ The first is that the Risen Christ as the Son of Man will come to judge the living and the dead.
+ Christ's Second Coming will be unmistakable since it will be accompanied by unprecedented signs in the heavens
and on the earth.
+ No one knows the time when the Second Coming will happen even the angels in heaven.
+ Since we do not know when it will happen we must constantly prepare.* Lastly, because Christ is already in His
glory, and has sent His Spirit among us,the “time” of salvation has already come. Now is the time when our
salvation is being worked out in our daily acts with our neighbors.
Daily acts of kindness, goodness, love and justice are definite ways on how we prepare for Jesus' second coming. We
should also spiritually prepare our soul by confessing our sins and frequent the reception of the Holy Eucharist.

Christ died and lived again, that He might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.” Christ's Ascension into
heaven signifies His participation, in His humanity, in God's power and authority. Jesus Christ is Lord: He

for the Father “has put all things under His feet.” Christ is Lord of the cosmos and of history. In Him human
history and indeed all creation are “set forth” and transcendently fulfilled.
