BPE 113 Final Performance Exam (Part 2)

Title: Adapting to New Movement – Motor Learning in Dance

Date: March 15, 2025
Time: 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM
Venue: AVR 1
Total Points: 50

Activity Description:

As a culmination of our discussions on motor control, skill acquisition, and adaptation in

exercise, sports, and dance, students will undergo a performance-based assessment that challenges
their ability to learn and execute unfamiliar movement patterns. Each student will first identify a dance
style they are proficient in (their forte) and one they are least comfortable with or have no prior
experience in (weakness). Students will then be grouped based on their weaknesses and must
collaboratively learn and perform a 3–4-minute dance piece in an unfamiliar style. This exercise will
assess their ability to apply principles of motor learning, adapt to new movement challenges, and
demonstrate skill acquisition in real-world settings. Costumes appropriate to the selected dance
style are required.
