Batting Biomechanics 1

The document outlines the 6 S’s of batting biomechanics, which include set-up, step, stop/stabilize, shoulders, swing, and straight movement towards the impact point. It emphasizes the importance of impact characteristics, mass and momentum, sequential body movement patterns, bat acceleration, contact area, and timing for effective batting. Additionally, it references articles on batting biomechanics by notable figures in the sport.

Batting Biomechanics

The 6 S’s of batting:

1. Set-up

Head over feet, hands in close to the body

Levers lined up, shoulders slightly open

2. Step

Move body mass towards the impact point

3. Stop/ Stabilize

Firm up the base and use as a secure anchor/resistance

4. Shoulders

Concentrate on the shoulders and the arms will follow

5. Swing

Rotate the shoulders into the ball, maintain the figure "9"

6. Straight

Step, back-swing, downswing and bat all move straight

towards impact point

Final thought:

Smaller body parts progressively and sequentially unwind off a stable base.
IMPACT:

I - Impact characteristics are the most important considerations

in batting

M - Mass creates Momentum which moves towards the point of

contact

P - Patterns of body movements sequentially stabilise to transfer

momentum as the bat approaches contact

A - Accelerate or Decelerate the bat continually until it reaches

impact

C - Contact the ball with the widest possible face of the bat

T - Timing is when the body has moved in the correct sequence

so that the bat reaches the required speed while the rest of
the body remains stable
