Project Title: EcoWatch: Building an environmental monitoring system for sustainable future

Sponsorship: NA

External Guide: Mr. Kedar Ambekar

Internal Guide: Prof. Amol Dande

Synopsis:

▪ Problem Statement:
Landslide-prone regions lack real-time monitoring systems, leaving communities and
infrastructure vulnerable to destructive impacts. Traditional methods are costly, limited in
scalability, and reliant on centralized infrastructure. Timely detection and prediction of
landslide events are challenging, posing significant risks to life and property. Urgent
solutions are needed to establish effective monitoring systems for proactive risk
mitigation in these areas.

1
▪ Introduction:

This device will help monitor landslide-prone areas that affect the community (humans
and all living beings) living in that remote area for easy migration and for mitigating
the potential impact of these disasters. The few factors involved are: -
1. Temperature of surroundings
2. Humidity of air
3. Moisture of soil
4. Wind velocity
5. Detection of rain
6. Wind Direction.etc

2
Proposed System:

3
▪ H/w and S/w Resources:
Hardware Resources: -

1. Temperature Sensor
2. Humidity Sensor
3. Soil Moisture Sensor
4. Water Detection Sensor
5. Wind Speed Sensor
6. LoRa module
7. ESP32
8. Batteries

Software Resources: -

1. GUI

2. Cloud Based Server

Conclusion: -
This project aims to contribute to the development of efficient and scalable
landslide detection solutions, leveraging the capabilities of LoRa technology to
enhance early warning systems and reduce the impact of landslides on
communities and infrastructure.

Using Object-based Image Analysis” 2022: This paper proposes immediate
recognition of landslides after a disaster is essential in assessing the consequent
hazards and risks present in the affected areas. Landslide mapping has been done
accurately through manual interpretation of high-resolution aerial imagery.
However, to speed up the process of landslide delineation, several studies
developed semi-automated techniques using object-based image analysis (OBIA)
for landslide recognition.

Predection and Detection Using IOT Systems” 2023: The primary goal of this
proposed work is to solve and avoid naturally occurring catastrophes or calamities
by providing information as early as possible by computing the machine learning
algorithm in the supplied data set. There are numerous reasons for establishing
such an environment for disaster reduction, in which the sensor detects the element
and immediately sends the data, and different learning algorithms are utilized to
provide information to the people about the catastrophe. The algorithm is fed with
various parameters and processed to gain its respective output.

“Landslide Monitoring System Implementing IOT Using Video Camera”
2018 : In this paper, they propose a landslide monitoring system based on
Raspberry Pi implementing IOT using a video camera. It performs real-time
analysis of the region, based on the video stream acquired by the camera and
applies computer vision algorithms to detect landslide and notify stakeholders via
Android app.

Road Safety in Landslide Prone Areas : Real- Time LoRa Based Landslide
Detection and Warning System” 2023 : This research aims to design a realtime
landslide detection system based on LoRa and the MPU6050 sensor and provide
warnings to road users via rotator lights. They created a prototype and performed
various transmitter position tests. In the experiment, they set the transmitter
perpendicular to the ground surface and recorded the X, Y, and Z axes -0.07, 0.16,
and 4.30 as the sensor threshold. When the transmitter position changes, the

receiver will compare the data with the threshold data and trigger the rotary light to
turn on.
