practicing teachers and students use to formulate new information
new skills to aid learning through the use, analysis, evaluation, and
production of visual images.
Types of Visual Media
1. Ideogram - These are graphical symbols that represent ideas.
Examples of such are signs, logos and symbols.
2. Statistical Visualization - This refer to the study and creation of data
using visual representation. Charts and graphs are examples of
statistical visualization.
3. Picture - Photography, painting, drawing. It is used widely by people to
express their ideas, opinions and sentiments.
4. Graphic Design - This refer to the art of combining text and
pictures to communicate infographics, posters, and graphic
advertisement are considered as graphic design.
5. Video - If graphic design is the combination of text and pictures, video
is the combination of motion picture, or of motion and audio.

How Visual media is produced and disseminated?


1. Formally produced visual media
 visual media produced by formal organizations such as
schools, government, and established media/publishing
outfits are considered formally produced.
2. Informally produced visual media
 Visual media produced by anyone who have knowledge or skills in
any visual designing without any organizations or publishing
involvement.

Purpose of visual information


1. Gain attention
2. Create meaning
3. Facilitate retention

Visual design elements


 the building blocks or basic units in the construction of a
visual image.

 Examples of Visual design elements and principles


a. Line - describes a shape or outline. It can create texture and
can be thick or thin. Lines may be actual, implied, vertical,
horizontal, diagonal, or contour.
b. Shape - usually a geometric area that stands out from
the space next to or around it, or because of
differences in value, color, or texture. Shape may
also be organic.
c. Value - the degree of light and dark in a design. It is the
contrast between black and white and all the tones in
between.
d. Texture - the way a surface feels or is perceived to feel.
Texture can be added to attract or repel interest of a visual
element.
e. Color - determined by its hue (name of color), intensity
(purity of the hue), and value (lightness or darkness of
hue). Color may be used for emphasis or to elicit emotions
from viewers.
