I. Objective:
This document describes proper gowning and de-gowning procedure for microbiology Lab.

II. Scope:
This document applicable for microbiology lab.

All personnel entering into the microbiology laboratory.

1. Disposable lab coats.
2. Clean white lab coats.
3. Shoes cover.
4. Safety tools for microbiologist.
5. Disposable Mask.
6. Gloves.
7. Head cover.

VII. Procedure
1. For quality control personnel who want perform analysis/ Engineering personnel/Visitors /
other personnel from the factory entering into the microbiology laboratory should follow the
procedure as given for microbiology personnel.

2. Microbiologist should wear clean white lab coat dedicated for microbiology lab.

3. Others company personnel need entering into the microbiology laboratory should wear
temporary coat and dispose it after usage in dedicated position.
4. Entry procedure to unclassified room (preparation area)
4.1. Incase temporary visit no need to gowning procedure.
4.2. In case you need apply preparation or measuring procedure in preparation area wear
clean lab coat or disposable lab coat.
4.3. Transfer material between testing area and preparation area through pass box.

5. Entry Procedure to testing area :


5.1. Enter testing area through dedicated change room and close the door.
5.2. Remove any garments (e.g., coat, hat, or sweater) that will not be worn in microbiology
lab.
5.3. Changing room divided by step over to two side pre-gowning side (less clean side) and
clean side.
5.4. At pre-gowning side:
5.4.1. Put on a head cover as soon as you enter the gowning room; make sure that all
hair is covered.
5.4.2. Wear lab coat.
5.4.3. Sit on step over and keep your face to less clean side. Hold your right foot in
the air to put on shoes cover then transfer your foot to more clean side.
5.4.4. Repeat the previous step to left foot.
5.4.5. Sanitize your hand using hand sanitizer.
5.4.6. The microbiologist when performing the analysis should wear nose mask, plastic
arm cover and sanitized gloves.

6. Exit Procedure from testing area:


6.1. Enter into change room and close the door.
6.2. Transfer to less clean side.
6.3. Remove arm cover, shoe covers, head cover and throw them in the dustbin. For visitor or
non- Microbiologist throw temporary coat in the dustbin.
6.4. For microbiologist remove the lab coat, place it on the dedicated location, and exit from
the change room.
6.5. Sanitize your hand using hand sanitizer.

For microbiologist remove the lab coat
and place it on the dedicated locker and
exit from the microbiology laboratory.
