EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The eco-village proposed by the proponents of the first group is about utilizing a
problem and then converting it into a solution. Its primary objective is to create an
environment wherein environmental practices are applied in the villagers’ everyday
lives. This project not only promotes eco-friendliness but also fosters innovativeness by
using a problem and maximizing it to its full prolific capability.

INTRODUCTION

The village of Earth-Ville faces significant flooding issues due to its low-lying location
and proximity to a river, caused by global warming. In response, the first group devised
a practical plan to mitigate these challenges. Even without environmental concerns, the
government should still promote an eco-friendly village, as it reduces ecological impacts
by harnessing natural resources for energy. These communities foster a strong social
fabric based on mutual aid, shared responsibility, and cooperation.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Objectives

Using the turbine from the hydroelectric powerplant, the villagers can maximize the
electrical output of the hydroelectric powerplant to create a sustainable source of
electricity and energy. Aside from the energy source of the village, some of its
infrastructures focus on Gothic architecture, incorporating parabolic bridges and other
infrastructures to enhance its structural integrity for better resistance in the winter or
against harsh conditions such as a winter storm. During this season, mass snow can
build up, which eventually melts after winter, causing flooding. Since not all sewage
systems are perfect, water build-ups can also occur which is cleaned up through
evaporation. Another benefit of Gothic architecture is its potential to appeal to tourists;
helping with the village's economy. Another means of attracting tourists is the village’s
unique topography, since it is shaped as a circle in the middle of a river, it will surely be
a tourist magnet for those who are interested in nature and fishing.

1
Location

The proponents of the proposal intend to build the village in a small land area in the
middle of a river to maximize the hydroelectric output, use pisciculture as one of the
main sources of income and food, use the river’s water flow to augment the sewers, use
the river’s water for irrigation purposes, and utilize its unique location for tourism
purposes. To prevent the river from destroying the village, the proponents plan on using
a parabolic-shaped wall against the river’s current. This parabolic-shaped wall has a
strong structural integrity, making it a formidable defense system for the village’s
platform.

When it comes to housing, both medieval and Gothic architecture are going to be
utilized. Although it’s quite expensive, the villagers can use this as an investment to
attract tourists to its uniqueness. Maximizing the river’s current as a sort of net is going
to be utilized to limit human waste. As for animal waste (herbivores), utilizing it as
fertilizers is essential to maintain environmental-friendliness. In the community layout,
the proponents thoroughly examined the best places for each major building (e.g. the
clinic and the food market are far away from each other to avoid unnecessary chemical
waste from mixing with the food)

Design Elements

The town will be made up of several buildings that will provide services or
accommodations to inhabitants in their daily lives. The village has multiple market stalls
for citizens to purchase their necessities, a clinic to treat any accidents that may occur,
a barn to store our farm products, a school for citizens to receive proper education, a
church for religious activities, compost pits to reuse decaying biodegradable items, a
sewage system to clean wastewater, and, most importantly, the hydropower system,
which will be the village's primary source of electricity. The design will be based on
medieval and Gothic architecture, as its uniqueness may attract tourists and generate
revenue for the village. Since the river is connected to the ocean, the community will
also include a farm and pisciculture as its main source of income and food. To avoid the
village's land from collapsing owing to river flow, we also planned for a parabolic form
wall, which would prevent river currents from pushing to the island and causing
damage.

Having a well-rounded and balanced lifestyle can give our bodies time to relax as well
as to function normally and well. This schedule focuses on both muscle strengthening
and aerobic activities which can help us to maintain a healthy body.

4
The concept of functions and relations can be utilized in the village's renewable energy.
Functions and relations are all about how things are connected, especially regarding
input and output. Take a hydroelectric power plant as an example: the river's flowing
water (the input) generates kinetic energy, which is then converted into electricity for us
to use. This same idea of interconnectedness applies to the Earth's four spheres—
Hydrosphere, Biosphere, Geosphere, and Atmosphere. Water sources like oceans,
rivers, and lakes (the Hydrosphere) not only support life and provide resources but are
also part of our daily lives. These waters interact with living things in the Biosphere and
rest on the Earth's crust (Geosphere). The Atmosphere, through sunlight, causes the
ocean's water to evaporate, which eventually leads to rain. Each of these spheres
depends on the others to function, and together, they create the perfect balance that
allows life to thrive on Earth. We are fortunate to live in a world where everything is so
perfectly connected.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

The principles of the village prioritize villagers' well-being, promoting discipline and
mutual respect. For instance, when someone is on the phone, nearby individuals are
encouraged to maintain quiet. Additionally, a clinic is established to support both
physiological and mental health, to avoid any communication breakdowns when talking
to other people. With a school dedicated to teaching the national language, preventing
miscommunication isn’t hard to achieve as well.

Aside from that, daily exercises and practices such as cycling, yoga, fishing, etc. can
also help to improve villagers' relationships with one another. Considering that another
source of income is tourism, communicating with tourists can also help foster social
engagement, building a holistic approach to a well-lived life for the villagers.

SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES

The village plans to implement a system converting the kinetic energy of flowing water
into electricity, making the electric consumption of the villagers more eco-friendly and
cheaper since it’s their dam after all. The villagers can also use the electricity to power
inventions requiring heat, such as welding machines or neon signs. The proposers
would also want to use the river's natural flow as a kind of "net." They want to build a
sewage system that channels wastewater so that it can mix with the river's water and
then be treated and disinfected before being released into the ocean. In addition to that;
Fishing, A compose pit, and disinfection of human waste will also be conducted within
the village as sustainable practices.

5
With this proposal, environmental concerns such as global warming, pollution,
production of greenhouse gases, etc. will surely lessen due to the eco-friendliness and
sustainability of the powerplant. Considering that the village is also far from the city and
is in the middle of an open field, it’s far from outside pollution. Furthermore, one of the
major sources of income in the village, aside from tourists is pisciculture or fishing since
the river is connected directly to the ocean.

BUDGET

Estimated Cost
 Church: $6-8 million (7 million
average)
Materials  Dam: $2.55 million
 Other infrastructures (housing,
clinic, farm, markets, etc.): $18.3
million

 Total: $27,850,000

Note: the designs have already been

considered in these costs
Labor $7,950,000
Maintenance $708, 400 per year
Total: 36,508,400 (yearly maintenance included)

FUNDING PROPOSAL

The proponents of the proposal sought to gather budgets from the following:

 Fundraising
 Government
 Individual contributions from the villagers
 Loan from the bank
 Non-government officials (NGOs)

6
CONCLUSION

In conclusion, this eco-friendly village not only helps sustain the environment but also
enriches the community in various other dimensions. Although it may be costly, it is
certainly worth it in the long run due to the fact that it can provide its own power source
in an environmental-friendly way. By fostering a village’s commitment to sustainability,
its citizens must actively participate to promote cooperation, unity, and mutual
understanding among the villagers.
