online. The fees are also exceptionally low compared to setting up a brick

they list it and only account for the cost of listing the item once in each sale
as a result they end up with tiny 5-10% profit margins. In the top right of the
eBay home page there is the help link if you click on it, you will be taken to
a page that has many topics on it if you don’t already have a good
knowledge of each of these then you need to read the articles on each of
these topics.

3 Gain a good reputation

Now that you have your own eBay account and know your way around
eBay. It’s time to build some feedback as I am sure you will have noticed
that each user has a feedback rating. For you to start selling on eBay you
need to build a positive feedback rating. The best way to do this is to buy, I
know you don’t want t o spend money on things you don’t need so simply
buy some essentials to start your eBay business like shipping supplies and
some relevant supplies to the product you plan to sell. I highly recommend a
personalized thank you and some sort of flyer to be included with your
product when you ship it to the customer so why not get them from eBay.

4 It’s time to sell!!!

Don’t worry you don’t need to have a product already but if you do that’s
great. Start by selling some stuff from around the house. But remember you
want to build a good reputation so don’t sell junk.

You have to systemize as eBay can be a slow site to navigate around I use

 2 Misspell

People often misspell their searches when they want to look for your
products. I use http://www.fatfingers.co.uk/ to search for misspelled eBay
items. So when you put in the incorrect spelling in your title you will rank
high for people who search with the incorrect spelling.

3 Write titles that sell

By titles that sell I don’t mean having the word fantastic or wonderful in
your title I mean if you have something unique with your product that will
catch people’s attention use it in your title. If you sell a generic product, be
sure to use all 55 characters provided to you by eBay and use words that
people search for e.g. a particular brand.

4 Write killer descriptions

The buyer can’t feel, see, hear, taste or smell the product so describe the
product fully and tell your potential buyer about the feelings you have when
you use the product. Never stop writing unless there is nothing more to say
and just because you think that people know what seems obvious
information to you doesn’t mean they do, it never hurts to add more
information. What if somebody is looking to buy a present and know
nothing about the product those few lines could be the difference between a
sale and no sale.

5 Provide a call to action

You often hear the term, call to action when talking to somebody about
marketing, well that’s what attempting to sell your product is, marketing.
You need to give people a reason to buy from you now. You want people to
feel like they have to buy it now or they will miss out. The chances are if
people don’t place a bid the first time they see your item they won’t be
coming back. Use phrases like: while stocks last and bid now to get people
to bid on your product now.

6 Have a unique selling point

Why should people buy from you?

 To sell products you need to have a unique selling point or USP for short.
This is especially true when talking about an online business, why shouldn’t
people simply go to a regular store instead of buying from you. Maybe there
is something special about your product like it’s a limited edition, maybe
you are going to offer something extra like free shipping or a superior
service where you answer any questions within 2 hours or ship within 2
hours. Maybe your USP is that people can’t get your product anywhere else
which leads me on to my next point.

7 Sell a niche product

A niche product is a product that sells to a very specific group for example:

-Baby

-Baby toys

-Rocking horses

-Hand crafted rocking horses (niche product)

The reason niche products sell so well online is that you often can’t get them
in a regular store because when running a brick and mortar store you can
only sell to those in a specific area near you and there may not be enough
interest in hand crafted rocking horses in that area to justify a shop stocking
them but when you can sell to the whole world online no market is too small
for a new online business.

8 Say thank you

Always include a thank you with your shipped product, of course when
saying thank you, be sure to advertise your eBay auctions and include a call
to action like if you purchase again in a week you get free shipping on any
order, make sure this call to action is within a short time frame otherwise it
will be forgotten about. Why not include a business card or little message
make sure you refer the customers back to your shop with these notes. If you
sell a real high end product you could include a personalised pen.

9 Advertise using loss leaders

 Loss leaders are products that you sell at a loss to draw people into your
store. Big supermarkets often use them and advertise them to bring in hoards
of people all looking to get a bargain only to buy the rest of the groceries.
Although they are called loss leaders I never sell mine at a loss I always aim
to break even after all costs. This method works best if you have your own

If you are selling a low cost item include a link to you’re my world eBay

you want to sell more of and buy it. But you need to tell the potential
customer why they need to buy it so because they are interested in a low cost
item include it free with their large purchase. If you simply want them to buy
in greater quantities then tell them how much they will save in shipping.
This technique can increase your profits massively.
How to create a successful eBay listing
1 Item description

You must write a clear, informative and lengthy item description. Always be
truthful in your description and include in your description any defects with
the product. Look at one of the sample items I found on eBay in advanced
eBay selling for one great and one terrible description.

2 A good picture

As the saying goes a picture is worth a thousand words and that is certainly
true with selling online because the customer can no longer feel or see the
item themselves so they need your picture and description to replace that
experience.

3 Reasonable shipping

The thing buyers hate most is finding a great deal but realizing shipping is
going to cost them an arm and a leg. I find the most successful listings for
the buyer and the seller charge for the full cost of the shipping + the
packaging materials. The other option is to give free shipping as eBay
favours this but only do so if you can afford this and still have a healthy
profit margin. You could always include some of the cost of the shipping in
the item price and then offer free shipping.

4 Price

Yes I rate price at number 4 because contrary to what you have probably
heard is that price isn’t that important. of course you need to be competitive
but if you look professional, take a good picture, describe your item well and
charge reasonably for shipping then you can often sell for far more than the
other sellers. This is because people still aren’t that confident buying online
and when you promise to offer a professional service and back that up by
looking professional then people are willing to pay more for that confidence.

the reduced competition. This has many advantages: there is a far better
chance of ranking in the top four on the search engines. Ranking in the top
four is crucial if you look at a Google search for chocolate we see the

When building a niche website I like to target one particular keyword or
phrase searched for on Google about ten thousand times a month.
How to find and choose your niche website’s name?
As I have said you are looking for a keyword or phrase that is searched for
10,000 times a month. But not just any keyword, it is best to choose
keywords on a subject you enjoy for example cooking. But this isn’t a niche
keyword. You are interested in deserts but that isn’t a niche keyword either
so you choose chocolate mousse recipe as your niche.

How to judge whether this is a domain name that will

bring you enough traffic?

First of all you search for the keyword on Google Adwords Keyword Tool
and choose exact. Exact means that somebody searches just [chocolate
mousse recipe] in Google that doesn’t include other searches like “easy
chocolate mousse recipe”. You need to choose to show search volume trends
because this way you will know if all the searches are coming from one
month or they are evenly spread over the months. As you want a steady
income you want to see a fairly even spread over the months. You should get
results like this:
As we can see there are about 10,000 searches each month and they are
pretty evenly spread over the months. This is only one part of choosing a
great domain name.

The next part is to look at the competition:

By looking at the competition you will know if you stand a chance of getting
in the top four. So how do you judge if you do have a good chance. First of
all you search for the keyword chocolate mousse recipe in Google and
choose one of the top four and go to the website. When in the website you
choose page-view source like this
And then go into the site and in your toolbar choose page view source the
notepad like bellow will pop up:
As you can see the page is optimized with it’s meta tags but the page isn’t
optimized to the search term chocolate mousse recipe. This means you have
a good chance of ranking in the top four but the page does uses optimized
video which is rated very highly by Google. The overall view is that the site
is well optimized but not to the search term chocolate mousse recipe.

The next part of the process is to see whether the domain name is free you
can do this by doing a domain name search on GoDaddy. You want a .info
domain because it only costs $1 and because you are looking to create a
niche website you need to keep your costs low.

Create your website

Now you have decided on your domain you need to begin creating content
but here’s the trick to rank high in the search engines. You are creating a
website but as you know the search engines rank blogs very high so you are
going to test out whether your site is viable by hosting the site using
Blogger. So what you do is sign up to Blogger and create a blog with any
name you want. You do this by selecting settings-publishing-custom domain
there is no fee compared with about $55 if you host it normally. You then
create your blog using SEO techniques and submit it to Google. You want
your site to get inside the top 10 on Google within a month but preferably 2
weeks after being indexed. Now that you know the site is viable you can
create a normal much larger site.

Build a website with Web Expression

So how do you create these fantastic websites with Web Expression?

Well I like to use templates oh and by the way you can extend templates
beyond the number of pages by copying the format from the master page and
then applying the CSS sheets from your template. A CSS sheet or cascading
style sheet contains the styles of the website. With Web expression it really
is like using Microsoft Word. You can also add code in code mode this
allows you to add Analytics and Adsense to your pages along with the
ability to have banners on your page. But if you haven’t seen Web
expression then all this won’t mean a lot as they say a picture is worth a
thousand words:
As you can see in small at the bottom there are design, split and code mode
and I am in split mode right there. Design mode is just like Microsoft Word
so when you create content there it is automatically converted into code so
the search engines can read it. Code mode is where you can add code to the
page and split is a half and half of both. Along the left you can see the folder
list which has all the pages of the site in it. Bellow that you will see the CSS
properties this is where you can in search engine friendly ways simply
change the styles of the page such as background color and text size and
color. Not only this but as you may be able to see in code you can add your
meta and title tags which is imperative to the search engines. Web
expression also allows you to make your own website without using a
template.
Submit the site to the search engines

When you have created the site then you need to submit it to the search
engines. You can do this by searching submit url to Google or submit url to
Bing and so on. You will have to wait about a week to know if your site hs
been indexed.

First of all let’s understand what affiliate marketing is:

Affiliate marketing is promoting other people’s products in return for a
commission. You get this commission in a number of ways. The most
common is to be paid a percentage of any sale that you make for the affiliate
program but a new form that is becoming more popular is PPC (pay per
click). Pay per click is used by some of biggest affiliate programs in the
world such as Google Adsense and eBay Partner Network. You can expect
to be paid somewhere in the region of 10-20% from a sale but some affiliate
programs such as Amazon Affiliate pay less (4-15%) and many electronic
products that you could find at Clickbank offer up to 80% commission. With
pay per click there are wide variations in price and it depends on what your
site is about, what you are promoting and the conversion rate from there.

The advantages of affiliate marketing are:

 Very high profit margin especially when you get most of your traffic
for free
 You don’t even have to touch a product that means no shipping
 You don’t deal with complaints or problems
 You can become an affiliate on any topic because there are so many
affiliate programs
 You can promote/sell big brands that you wouldn’t be allowed sell if
you were an online retailer

The best way to promote products is to have an information website that will
attract potentially millions of interested visitors.
So what do you need to create a website?

A domain name/register:
A domain name is the name of your site. To get a domain name you must
buy one you can do this through www.GoDaddy.com they are the cheapest
on the market with .com registrations bellow $7. When registering a domain
name, be very carful as your domain name plays a huge role in your search
engine ranking make sure that your site’s name has the major keywords you
want to rank high for. Although if these keywords are very competitive, you
won’t be able to get the domain name and also as it is so competitive it
won’t have as big a role in determining your search engine ranking. If you
choose a domain name and website that targets small keywords that still get
enough traffic to make it economical. When the website you choose targets
small keywords the effect of your domain name will be much greater.
Remember the monetary cost of running a site like this is quite low
especially when you use www.GoDaddy.com and Web expression in fact if
you make a few sites the cost can be as low as $50 a year.

A web host:
A web host is something you need to have your site on the internet. A web
host is basically a service that allows you to upload your website to the
internet without it your site won’t be visible on the World Wide Web Go
Daddy also provides this service very price competitively.

Website creation software:

There are many website creation software products but in my opinion
Microsoft web expression is the best. Check out my first website that I
created with Web expression it is an affiliate website designed to help

expression I highly recommend you use a template to create a fantastic
looking website. But no matter how good your site looks traffic and making
that traffic create more sales so next let’s work on increasing your traffic.

How to get traffic to your website
There are so many ways that you can gain traffic. I will run through the
major ones here.

SEO or search engine optimization is the most popular and in

my opinion the best because it will bring the most traffic and all for free.
SEO is the art of getting the search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing
to rank your site above the other millions.

There are a few key techniques to this:

1 Write great content

Just write some great content naturally in Mcrosoft Word, don't worry about
keywords or anything like that. A good website should have upwards of ten
pages preferably 15 each page should have at least 150 words but 400-600 is
best. Then you can copy and paste it into Web expression and design it from
there.

2 Keywords

Choose some keywords that you want to rank high for. The best way to find
out the most searched keywords is the Google Adwords Keyword Tool.
Remember that the keywords with the most searches aren’t always the best
it’s the ones that you can get on page one for. Then choose one or two of the
keywords for each page and make sure these keywords are used in the page
title and the h1, h2 and h3 headings and throughout the page content. Don't
overcrowd the page with too high a keyword density and there is no need to
start counting the number of keywords in your content, just have them

3 Internal links

Internal links are links to different pages in a website. They tell the search
engine what the different pages are about as well as helping visitors to
navigate around your site. When you are creating internal links you need to
use keywords in them, never create internal links that say click here or read
on if you linking to a page titled SEO advanced then use that title or the
keywords in that page like search engine optimization.
 4 Incoming links

Search engine optimization is now a popularity contest because Google have

changed their algorithm (the way they search and rank web pages). They
changed this because people were abusing their search engine by packing
their websites with keywords or doing link swaps (linking to another
person's website and them linking back). Although these are perfectly legal
they weren't bringing up the best results for searchers. So now the most
important part of SEO is inbound links from other related and well ranked
websites. So how do you get these links when it seems they are out of your
control? One way is to write articles about topics in your site and publish
them to relevant websites or article publishing sites. Make sure to link back
to your website in these articles these links should also contain keywords.
Another way is to join some social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter
etc and link back to your site, you can also ask your friends on these sites to
link to you. Of course the most effective way to gain links is to write great
content people will want to recommend but make sure to get these people to
link to using keywords. This is key in helping the search engines rank you
higher. For example if you search click here in Google, Adobe will come up
number one this is because so many people link to Adobe with click here.
The best way to get people to link to you using keywords is to ask them in
your content or to provide links for them although this will require some
coding skills.

5 Create and submit a site map

When you have built your site and are happy with your content you need to
create a site map as it helps the search engines crawl through your site.
Here's an example of a site map, if you are using Microsoft Web Expression
then simply use a template and your site map page will be there for. This is a
user sitemap but Google need an xml sitemap you can use
www.GoDaddy.com ‘s search engine visibility which will automatically
create an xml sitemap for you. An xml sitemap is key to Google and all the
other search engines because it tells them what your site is about. If you
don’t have an xml sitemap it may take months for Google to even crawl your
site and no xml sitemap will significantly down grade your site. Not only
this but www.GoDaddy.com ‘s search engine visibility will also crawl your
site and tell you from their top ten SEO list where you have problems on
your site. Not only this it will also tell you how to amend these problems and
in some cases it will automatically fix them for you. Once you have created
 your site map then you need to submit it to Google manually you will also
need to submit it to the other search engines just search for the search
engines webmaster tools.

6 Meta tags and headings

Every page needs it's own title meta tag

e.g. <title>The title of the page, lots of keywords</title>

the page also needs a keyword tag

e.g. <meta name="Keywords" content="all the keywords you want the

page to rank high for with the most important ones first">

and a meta description tag

<meta name="Description" content="This webs page explains how to

rank higher in the search engines.">

All pages also need h1,h2 and h3 headings these are the headings in bold on
a web page not only do they look good to visitors they are crucially
important to the search engines all headings must contain keywords but
remember they need to be readable to the visitor. H1 headings are the largest
and are found at the top of the page.

7 Name your pages

You need to name your pages using keywords e.g.

www.websitename.com/keyword as opposed to
www.websitename.com/book.html?isbn=9781590592045 to register your
domain names for a price as low as $1 go to GoDaddy.com/domains.

8 Get Indexed

To come up number one on Google you have to be registered on Google or

the other search engines. When you are happy with your SEO submit your
site to Google in webmaster tools.
Blogging
Another popular way to get traffic and to increase your inbound links is
blogging and the social media like Twitter and Facebook. The use of social
media is becoming very popular but I still think that blogging has a bigger
impact. Blogs are so popular with the search engines because they are
updated regularly. I use blogger to create my blogs not only is blogger easy
to use and it is a Google product. Blogger also allows you to easily monetize
your blog by adding Adsense to your blog. With blogger I highly
recommend you pick a name like your domain that will help with SEO and
get you ranked higher on Google. Blogger is also free. Now onto social
media, social media is a great way to build a brand and is much more
personal which can have it’s advantages. I do use social media but find it
isn’t as powerful as blogging but nonetheless gives me inbound links and a
captive audience.

Article writing
Wow this is a really powerful tool that will get you followers, build a brand
and have relevant inbound links into your site. Article writing is when you
write an article on something you are an expert on and submit it to article
sites such as Article Base. The best thing about it is that you can simply take
content from your own website format it to be an article and then submit it.
When creating your back links to your site be sure to use keywords and have
a couple of links throughout the article. Your articles will automatically be
submitted to the search engines and the site you write for is ranked very high
because they have such fresh content.

Pay per click

There are two times in which I use PPC, they are when I have launched a
new site and I want to get some traffic. For this I generally create text links
in Google Adwords and I am prepared to pay slightly more so I can find out
how much each visitor to my site I worth. Generally each visitor to an
affiliate site is only worth a couple a cents but of course when you can
potentially have millions of visitors it all adds up.
How to get 2 cent clicks from Google
So when I have found what my visitors are worth to me I then find relevant
keywords to my site and bid at least 10% under what I earn from each
visitor. Although creating text links with that low of a bid won’t bring you
too much traffic. A really cool tactic to get you cheap relevant clicks from
Google is through the creating of image or banner ads because there is far
less competition in that area. When creating an image ad you can use the
display ad builder as to create an image ad you will need a high quality
picture. Create the image ad in a descriptive manner and if you are linking
directly to a product then you may wish to give the price as this will boost
the conversion rate while dropping the click through rate. You can also use
this technique to directly link to one of your affiliate programs. The best way
to do that is to create another descriptive ad with the price of the product you
are promoting. You will need to track your conversion rate very closely as
this technique can be costly if the product isn’t making enough sales for the
cost of sending visitors. Once you know that the affiliate link is working for
you and you are making a profit you can create more ads and make more of
a profit.

Monetize (make money)

So you can build a site and get traffic to that site but it’s all worth nothing if
you can’t make money from those visitors. I will run through the best
affiliate programs and how you can promote those programs.

Affiliate programs I recommend

WORLDWIDE BRANDS is my favorite affiliate program with two tiers and
$75 every time you sign someone up. Worldwide Brands provides one of the
best products online, they will teach anybody how to find products from
their 8 million product database and how to get accounts with these products
wholesalers.

GOOGLE ADSENSE Adsense is a great way to monetize your website.

Techniquely it's not an affiliate program. The way it works is that Google
will crawl your website and will place relevant links to other sites in a
position of your choice. You get paid for every click but only around $0.30
per click depending on the content of your site but it does build up. The key
to Adsense is traffic; you won't earn much if you don't have significant
traffic. The reason Adsense works so well is because the ads are relevant to
what your site is about so you really do get a huge amount of clicks.

AMAZON AFFILIATE is a great affiliate program because Amazon sells

everything. Amazon also provides great tools and attractive widgets to place
on your website. The only downside is that the commission is quite low
around 6% and that’s only when you have some sales. Amazon affiliate is
fantastic because you can place a search tool on the site which allows people
search for anything on Amazon and even if what they buy has nothing to do
with your site has nothing to do with it. Another fantastic thing about
Amazon affiliate is that the links are so modern and will really make your
site look fantastic.

EBAY PARTNER PROGRAM much like the Amazon program except eBay
pay per click which means rather than paying a commission eBay pays you
every time somebody clicks on your ad. A great benefit of the eBay partner
program is that all you have to do is insert a code onto your site and as
eBay's auctions are updated regularly so will your links and the search
engines will see this as fresh content ranking your website higher.

COMMISSION JUNCTION is a huge collection of affiliate programs so

you only have to enter your information once and you can apply to as many
programs as you want. Not only this but all your stats are kept under one
account and your payments come in from one check.

How to promote them:

Links: the two main ways to get people through your affiliate link is
through banner and text links, both can be very successful but it really
depends on what you are promoting and your audience. Banner ads are great
for products that need an image such as a weight loss product and text links
are great for products that need to be explained in text, then you simply
create a link in the text that flows with the text. For example: you can easily
create text links when you use Microsoft web expression.

In the text: this is the best way to promote products because not only is the
product link simply imbedded in the text but it is clearly relevant to the
reader because they are reading the text with the link. Text links in a
paragraph have the highest conversion rate because you can pre sell the
product in the text.

Outside the text: ok so text links are the best but just as people learn
differently from each other they also choose their products differently that’s
why banner or image links are also successful. Another advantage of image
links is that they are images and rather than having just pages of text you
also have images and some design on the page.

E books: one of the most powerful forms of promoting products and

getting inbound links is creating e books. The key to creating great e books
is great content. You need to write about something interesting and then
make that topic easy to read. You can accomplish this by adding images that
will break up the text and writing in small paragraphs with flowing simple
language. Not only that but you can sell your e book through many sites
such as eBay and Clickbank. So how do you get your e book to sell on
eBay? On eBay people need a great picture and a great description but most
of all they like a low price on such electronic products as your e book you
can afford this because in your e book you can promote products and make a
profit that way.

Clickbank is a great tool for you to start employing affiliates. If you aren’t
familiar with Clickbank it’s an online marketplace and payment processor
for electronic goods that has over 200,000 affiliates available to you. You
can submit your product to the site for a one time activation fee of $50. You
then simply submit the product where it is located on your site and what
commission you want to give to the affiliate who will drive traffic to your
site and hopefully make sales. But how do you get these affiliates to choose
to promote your product.

To get the affiliate to promote your product then you need a number of
things. First of all you need to give a substantial commission, I recommend
about 50% seen as your product will have such a high profit margin and the
fact that you can promote affiliate products will ensure you still get a nice
cut. Clickbank also take a small percentage of each sale. You also need to
have a product that sells at a fairly high price; if your product sells for
something like $2 then affiliates may not be interested in promoting it. You
also need to grab the affiliate’s attention by writing a great product
description you might even want to offer your product free to affiliates
interested in promoting it for you.
Straight links through your affiliate link/ keyword
bidding: here’s a really cool and incredible way to promote your
products. I have said that pre selling an affiliate product gets the best returns
and that is true but another fact about affiliate marketing is that the more
clicks from site to site or page to page means a drop in sales. So this
technique solves that problem because what you do is you place ads on
Google straight to the affiliate product through your affiliate link. So how do
you do this? In Google Adwords you simply place your affiliate link in the
website URL box and the real website’s URL in the URL display
box.

Unfortunately you will have less sales per clicks because there is no pre sell.
This technique is only good when you use it on a product that has a high
commission and conversion rate. I would say anything that gives a $75 or
more commission would be enough for this technique. So you really need to
use the pay per click methods for getting cheap clicks I mentioned earlier.
Please note that not all affiliate programs allow keyword bidding so ask
before you bid on any keywords.

Email marketing: on your website you can offer an information

product through an email newsletter or a series of emails kind of like an
email course you have already made and therefore don’t need to be made
fresh every week. When you are sending out your emails I think weekly is
best. Remember you don’t want people to ignore your emails so be sure to
make them interesting and helpful. From this point you will be considered an
expert in your area and then when you do promote a product every now and
then (every 4-5 emails) you will gain more sales. You can get this fantastic
service of email newsletters, an email course, the creation of the forms so
you can sign them up and a database you can download to Microsoft Excel
from Aweber.

Build a website with Web Expression

So how do you create these fantastic websites with Web Expression?

Well I like to use templates oh and by the way you can extend templates
beyond the number of pages by copying the format from the master page and
then applying the CSS sheets from your template. A CSS sheet or cascading
style sheet contains the styles of the website. With Web expression it really
is like using Microsoft Word. You can also add code in code mode this
allows you to add Analytics and Adsense to your pages along with the
ability to have banners on your page. But if you haven’t seen Web
expression then all this won’t mean a lot as they say a picture is worth a
thousand words:

As you can see in small at the bottom there are design, split and code mode
and I am in split mode right there. Design mode is just like Microsoft Word
so when you create content there it is automatically converted into code so
the search engines can read it. Code mode is where you can add code to the
page and split is a half and half of both. Along the left you can see the folder
list which has all the pages of the site in it. Bellow that you will see the CSS
properties this is where you can in search engine friendly ways simply
change the styles of the page such as background color and text size and
color. Not only this but as you may be able to see in code you can add your
meta and title tags which is imperative to the search engines. Web
expression also allows you to make your own website without using a
template.
