AP AB Calculus

Chapter Five Assignments

Read each section before attempting the problems.

#1. Section 5.1 Areas and Distances: p. 369 – 371 #1, 6a, 13, and 17. p. 382 - 385
#2, 9 See notes on each problem below.

p. 369 #1 (estimate y-values when necessary - do your best, it won’t be exact, and that’s
okay)
#6a (use your calculator for this entire question)
#13 (this one’s easy -- you have the values in the table; use all intervals, i.e. n = 6; lower
= LH sum, and upper = RH sum)
#17 (just count the squares and estimate -- you don’t need to use rectangles)

p. 382 #2 (be sure to graph this!), 5, 7 (n = 5), #9 (use your calculator to generate
function values and make final computations -- just write out the Riemann sum and
sketch the graph)

#1.5 Section 7.7 Trapezoid Rule: p. 516 - 518 (Ignore references to Simpson’s Rule)
#10, 11, 13, 29, 31

#2 Section 5.2 Definite Integrals: p. 382 - 385 #27 (if you sketch this, I think you’ll
see the “proof”), 33, 35, 37, 38, 40, 41, 43, 47, 49, 50, 51, 52, 53

#3 Section 5.2 Definite Integrals: p. 382 - 385 #17 - 21 all, 24, 25.

#4 Section 5.3 The FTC: p. 394 - 396 #3, 7 - 18 all, 67, 69, 70

#5 Section 5.3 The FTC: p. 394 - 396 #19 - 41 odd, 60, 61, 63

#6 Section 5.4 Indefinite Integrals and Net Change: p. 403 - 405 #5, 9, 11, 15, 25,
27, 33, 37, 41, 44, 45, 51 - 57 odd

#7 Section 5.4 Indefinite Integrals and Net Change: p. 403 - 405 #10, 12, 16, 18, 30,
32, 35, 59 - 65 odd

#8 Section 5.5 Substitution: p. 413 - 415 #1 - 7 odd, 11 - 17 odd, 21, 31, 33, 41, 43

#9 Section 5.5 Substitution: p. 413 - 415 #53 - 71 odd, 81, 83, 85
