central tendency of grouped data- Mode

The document outlines a lesson plan focused on calculating the mode of grouped data, including objectives, subject matter, materials, and procedures for teaching. It provides a formula for determining the mode, along with an illustrative example using weekly wages of factory workers. The plan also includes group activities, generalization questions, evaluation methods, and an assignment for students to calculate the mode from given test scores.

I.

OBJECTIVES
 Calculates the measures of central tendency of ungrouped
and grouped data.
(M7SP-IVf-g-1)

II. SUBJECT MATTER

 TOPIC
Mode of Grouped Data
 REFERENCE
Soledad Jose-Dilao, Ed.D, et.al., Advanced Algebra
Trigonometry and Statistics (2003). Vibal
Publishing House, Inc. Pp. 362-363
 MATERIALS
Printed visual aid, chalk, projector
 INTEGRATION
Social Science

III. PROCEDURE
A. PREPARATION
 Daily classroom routine
 Checking of attendance
 Checking of assignment

B. MOTIVATION
 The teacher will post different kinds of balls.
 What can you observe with the pictures I
posted?
 Can you determine the ball that has most
number of frequencies?

C. PRESENTATION OF LESSON
 At the end of the lesson you should be able to calculate the
measures of central tendency of ungrouped and grouped
data, specifically in finding the mode of grouped data using
a formula.

D. DISCUSSION
 What is a mode?
 MODAL CLASS- the class interval where the value with the
highest frequency occurs.
 Formula of MODE:

Mo = L mo ( d 1+d
+
d
1
2)
i

Where:
Lmo is the lower limit of the modal class
d 1 is the difference between the frequency of the modal class and that
of the immediately preceding lower class
d 2 is the difference between the frequency of the modal class and that
of the immediately following higher class
i is the size of the class interval

 Illustrative example:
 consider the distribution of weekly wages of factory
workers in Matina Garments Factory.
 What is the highest value in the distribution?
 What is the modal class?

WEEKLY WAGES NO. OF WORKERS

₱1380-1399 4
1360-1379 6
1340-1359 12
1320-1339 31
1300-1319 24
1280-1299 15
1260-1279 11
1240-1259 8

Substituting the values,

31−24
Mo= 1319.5 + [ ] 20
( 31−24 )+(31−12)

7
= 1319.5 + [ (7+19) ] 20

7
= 1319.5 + ( 26 ) 20
= 1319.5 + (0.269) 20
= 1319.5 + 5.38
= 1324.88

E. APPLICATION (GROUP ACTIVITY)

 The teacher will group the students into six and will give
different activities in each group.

F. GENERALIZATION
 What is the formula of mode if we are going to solve for
the grouped data?

G. EVALUATION
 Activity in the Application will serve as evaluation.

H. ASSIGNMENT
 Calculate the mode of the given distribution: Final Test
Scores in Advanced Algebra obtained by 100 Grade 10
students of San Isidro National High school.
