Term 1 Holiday Assignment

1. The volume (v) of a cylinder of a certain height is directly proportional to the square of its
radius, r. When the radius of the cylinder is 2 cm, its volume is 81 cm3. Find the radius of the cylinder
if its volume is 506.25 cm3.

2. The electrical resistance (R) of a wire is in inverse proportion to the square of its radius, r.
Given that the resistance is 0.45 units when the radius is 0.4 cm, find
(a) R in terms of r,
(b) the resistance when the radius is 0.6 cm.

3. The dot diagram shows the number of storybooks owned by a group of students.

(a) How many students are in the group?

(b) Find
(i) the modal number of storybooks owned,
(ii) the median number of storybooks owned,
(iii) the mean number of storybooks owned.
(c) The mean number of storybooks owned is 2.5 if two students are removed from the
group. Calculate the total number of storybooks these two students owned.

4. Solve the simultaneous equations:

7x – 3y = 67. 3x = 33 + 2y.

5. Solve the following simultaneous equations using substitution method:

2x – 3y = 1 and 5x + 2y = 12.
