Examine the photo shown to the class. Each group should identify key issues or problems in society as reflected in the
photo. Answer the question: How can the social sciences perspective be used to examine/address said key issue or
problem? Make sure that the steps by which the social issue is addressed follows the scientific method.

Introduction:
1. Time frame: This lesson is good for 4 hours (240 minutes).
2. RUA: At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
(a) Define Social Science as the study of society;
(b) Distinguish social sciences and natural sciences from Humanities;
(c) Describe the different types of research designs; and
(d) Apply the use of scientific method in social research.
3. Context: The learners can apply their learning from this lesson in the context of RUA of student’s learning, the
learnings from this topic are very much applicable to how students will be able to identify one major social issue or
problem that greatly affects the Philippine society and explain how the social sciences can be used to address this
issue or social problem.

4. Overview of the Lesson: In this lesson, students will explore Social Science and its importance in studying
society. They will differentiate social sciences, natural sciences, and humanities, understanding their distinct

methodologies. They will also explore various research designs used in social science research and learn how to apply
the scientific method to social research. By the end of the lesson, students will have a comprehensive understanding
of Social Science, enabling them to differentiate disciplines, describe research designs, and apply the scientific method
effectively. This knowledge will establish a strong foundation for further exploration in the field.

Photo Analysis
Instructions: Examine the photo shown to the class. Form four groups which corresponds to the social issue
identified (number of members per group may vary). The group members will choose a leader who will
facilitate the task/s for the group activity. Each group should identify key issues or problems in society as
reflected in the photo. Consolidate all the responses and see how the social sciences perspective can be used
to examine/address said key issue or addressed follows the scientific method. Complete the following table and
then share your answers with the class.
