Introduction

The Windows 10 Administration Lab Series is designed to assist you in learning


fundamental skills, based on the administration and management of a Windows 10
client.

Objective

This lab provides instruction on the creation and removal of user accounts on a
Windows 10 client machine.

1 Access the User Account Utility on PC1

1.1 Access PC1

1. Click on the PC1 icon from the topology page to access the Windows 10 client.

2. Login to the system as student with the password of Train1ng$.

When accessing the system, if a black screen with the date/time is present, click
anywhere within the black screen for the login prompt to appear.

1.2 Access the User Account Utility

1. Click on the Start Menu, followed by clicking on the Control Panel icon.

2. On the All Control Panel Items window, click on User Accounts.

3. Click Make changes to my account in PC settings

2 Create a New User Account

1. Click on Family & other users.

2. Click Add someone else to this PC.

3. In the Create an account for this PC window, enter the following information:

a. Type the name TEST in the User name text field.


b. Type the password of password123 in the Enter Password text field.
c. Re-enter the same password in the Re-enter password text field.
d. Create a hint to help you remember the password in the Password hint text
field.

4. Click Next to continue.

5. Notice the new TEST account is now listed at the bottom of the Accounts
window underneath the Other users section.

3 Change a Local Account Type to Administrator

1. Click on the TEST Local account icon to expand additional control options. Click
Change account type.

2. The Change account type window opens.

3.1.1 Question Bank 1

What Account type was originally created for the TEST user account?

Why would someone want to change a user account from the default Account type to
an Administrator account? What benefits does the Administrator account provide?

3. Click the Account type dropdown menu and select Administrator as the account
type. Click OK.

4. Notice the TEST user account is now shown with Administrator status.

4 Delete a User Account and Remove Their Files

1. Click on the TEST Administrator - Local account and click on Remove.

2. The Delete account and data window opens. Read the message displayed.

How is this message different from what you may have seen in a Windows 7 or Windows
8 client?

3. Click Delete account and data. There should not be any accounts displayed in
the Accounts window of Family & other users.

4. Close all remaining open windows.


5. Close all PC Viewers and end the reservation to complete the lab.
