Ocarina is a listening tool dedicated to children.
It has been designed to help cultivate their precious imagination
and preserve the purity of their vision.
We hope that the Ocarina Player can be a nice friend for your child too.
Ocarina is an MP3 Player equipped with a display, a speaker, an unmistakable
handle and a soft, child-resistant rubber coating.
The display allows the device to be managed at any time, even in the dark.
Management is easy and intuitive, while the Parental Control allows adults
to manage the most important settings.

1. INTRODUCTION
This Manual contains all product, safety and warranty information, and warnings for the use.
Please read the Manual carefully before using the Ocarina Player and keep it for future reference.
The manufacturer Sindbad srl declares that the type of radio equipment OR-201 Ocarina complies with directive
2014/53 / EU.

3. SAFETY
WARNING! This device is NOT a toy.
WARNING! Improper storage or use of the device may void its warranty.
WARNING! Do not store the device in an environment with a high temperature (e.g. in a closed car under the sun). To
avoid overheating, do not leave it on in an unventilated place (e.g. in a bag).
WARNING! Do not keep the device close to the ear when the Outdoor Volume mode is selected, it could cause
permanent hearing damage. With the Volume Outdoor mode setting, the use of the Player must always be under the
supervision of an adult.
WARNING! The use with earphones is not suitable for children under the age of 36 months.
WARNING! The device connection to the computer should always be done by an adult.

4. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:


◊ Do not disconnect the device from the computer while downloading or uploading files or formatting, program-
ming errors may occur in the device.
◊ Do not disassemble the device without the help of an expert technician. The damages resulting from opening
the device are not covered by the warranty.
◊ Do not use alcohol, thinner or benzene to clean the surface of the device, use a soft wipe to clean the screen.
◊ Always make a backup of your files. The manufacturer assumes no responsibility for any deletion of files after a
breakdown or the repair of the device.
◊ The manufacturer reserves all rights to the technology and design of the device and is not required to inform
the user about the development of new versions or new designs.
◊ The device is NOT waterproof; avoid contact with water.

5. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

6. USE

6.1 - STARTING (ON)


Briefly press the Ocarina button.

The screen with the Ocarina logo will turn on and the device will emit a Welcome sound.

6.2 - SWITCHING OFF (OFF)


The Player turns off by pressing and holding the Ocarina button for 5 seconds. If not used, it switches off automatically
after 1 minute.
NB. Ocarina may switch off while playing content if the Timer function is active (see “Timer”) or if the battery runs out.

6.3 - DISPLAY
The Ocarina Player is equipped with a useful OLED display that facilitates consultation and management even in con-
ditions of poor or excessive light. The display is activated every time a key is pressed and when the Ocarina Player is
connected to the computer via USB cable.
During playback, the display turns off automatically after 10 seconds of no interaction with the keys, showing only the
following display:

Pressing any key the device will display again all the information.

6.4 - PLAYBACK
Press the Square button briefly to activate the playback (Play).
Press it again to stop playback (Pause).

The display shows the information of the track played. Press the left (<) or right (>) button to play the previous or next
track.
When the Player reaches the end of the playlist, the playback restarts from the beginning of the same playlist.

6.5 - PLAYLISTS
Briefly press the Ocarina button to scroll forward through the playlists contained in the internal memory of Ocarina.
To return to the previous playlists, you need to hold down the Ocarina button for 2 seconds.

Ocarina Player can hold up to 254 playlists and each playlist can contain up to 254 audio tracks. The playlists in excess
will not be displayed. Each playlist corresponds to a previously named data folder. To insert a new playlist on Ocarina,
refer to the Content Management item. The playlist containing the tracks recorded by the microphone (MyRec) is
always positioned at the end.

6.6 - VOLUME
To change the volume level of the Ocarina Player, hold down one of the arrow keys (<) or (>) for about 1 second: the
volume level is shown on the display.
Press the keys (<) to decrease the volume to the desired level or (>) to increase it.
The volume of the Ocarina Player is set to protect the children hearing in accordance with the relevant EU law
requirements.
In this way the volume level can be managed independently by children in complete safety.
NB. By accessing the Menu, it is possible to increase the volume of the Ocarina Player by setting the Volume Outdoor
mode. This choice allows you to increase the volume beyond 75 Db and therefore must only be made voluntarily by an
adult through Parental Control.
WARNING! With the Outdoor Volume mode, the use of the device must always take place under the supervision
of an adult; in this mode, the Ocarina Player must never be kept close to the ear, risk of permanent hearing damage.

6.7 - QUICK KEY LOCK


To listen to Ocarina in total safety with the selected settings without accidentally pressing the keys, you can lock the
keys quickly.
To activate / deactivate the Quick Key Lock press and hold the Square key for 3 seconds.
When the Quick Key Lock function is activated, a small white square will be visible on the display in the upper left
corner.

6.8 - REC
It is possible to make audio recordings via an external microphone or audio headphones equipped with a microphone
and 3.5 mm audio jack.
By inserting the jack into the Ocarina Player’s audio socket, two options appear on the screen: Rec function and Listen
through headphones function.
The cursor is positioned on the Rec function so you can just press the Square button once to access the function
and view the recording timer.

You can start recording by pressing the Square button, while pressing it again you pause it. There is no limit to the
number of pauses you can take during a recording session.
To end the recording, you need to pause it, then move the right arrow to the “SAVE” icon and confirm your choice
with the Square button.

The recording is automatically stored in the MyRec Playlist with a progressive number from 01/10 to 10/10, from the
most recent to the oldest.
Up to 10 tracks with a maximum duration of 15 minutes each can be stored (equal to a total capacity of 100 minutes,
equivalent to approximately 600 Mb). The new recorded tracks are added progressively up to 10/10.
NB. 01/10 is always the most recent entry.

NB. In case of re-recording when the MyRec Playlist is full, Ocarina will automatically delete the oldest track (10/10).
It is recommended to save the recordings you intend to keep on your computer.
Tracks are stored in Wav format (.WAV).

6.9 - LISTENING WITH HEADPHONES


You can listen through audio headphones equipped with a 3.5 mm audio jack.
By entering the jack in the Ocarina’s audio input, two options are displayed on the screen: Rec function and Listen
through headphones function.

Move the cursor to ‘headphones’ and press the Square button. Ocarina will start the playback (see 6.4).
Unplug the headphones to resume speaker playback.

7. PARENTAL CONTROL SETTINGS


Within the Parental Control, you can access the following settings:
◊ Outdoor Volume
◊ Key Lock
◊ Wi-Fi
◊ Timer
◊ Information
To access the Parental Control, press the two Arrow key simultaneously for about 3 seconds.
Use the Arrows to scroll through the various settings.
Press the Square button to activate / deactivate the desired setting. Press the Ocarina button to exit.
The display shows a small square at the top left every time a parental setting is active.

7.1 - OUTDOOR VOLUME

Setting the Outdoor Volume function allows you to increase the volume of the Ocarina Player up to a maximum of
over 90dB.
Use the Arrow keys to select the function in the Parental Control, then press the Square key to activate it (on) or de-
activate it (off).
Once the function is activated, press the Ocarina button to return to playback, exiting the Menu.
WARNING! With the Volume Outdoor mode, the use of the device must always be under the supervision of an
adult; in this mode, never keep it close to the ear, risk of permanent hearing damage.

7.2 - PERMANENT KEY LOCK

The Permanent Key Lock setting allows you to disable the functionality of all keys on the device. In this way, children
can use Ocarina in total safety with the settings selected by their parents.
Use the Arrow keys to select the function, then press the Square key to activate it (on) or deactivate it (off).
Once the function is activated, press the Ocarina button to return to playback by exiting the Menu.
When the Permanent Key Lock function is activated, the icon will be visible on the display during playback.
The Permanent Key Lock function activated by the Menu must always be deactivated from the same Menu.
Unlike the Quick Key Lock, it is not possible to disable the Permanent Key Lock using the Square key.

7.3 - WI-FI (if the function is available)


The Wi-fi function allows you to access and manage a section of Ocarina’s internal memory and Parental settings
without connecting via a cable.
NB. Available only for Ocarina configurations that show a ‘C’ at the beginning of the code present in the first line of
the menu [I] (for example CUR.ESP32VER: C0.20) that can give access to the Wi-fi function.

Management of the Wi-fi
To connect the Ocarina Player to the internet follow the steps here below:
◊ connect the Ocarina Player to a micro USB cable
◊ enter the configuration Menu on Ocarina
◊ select the Wifi Menu, and then the “START” item: in this way Ocarina will activate its internal access point
◊ using a tablet / PC / smartphone connect to the Ocarina access point: the name is like ‘Ocarina-config-XXYYZZ’,
where ‘XXYYZZ’ are the last digits of the Mac address. The password for the connection is currently: ocarina2.
◊ open a browser on the PC and go to the URL: 192.168.10.1
◊ a configuration page will open to get Ocarina out on the network:

◊ at this point it you need to enter the SSID and the password to connect to the Wifi network and from now on
Ocarina will appear on the Internet with these credentials.

7.4 - TIMER
The automatic shutdown allows you to program the duration of the device on.
Time is displayed in minutes.

Use the Arrow keys to set the Timer duration, then press the Square button to select the desired time.
Once the function is activated, press the Ocarina button to return to playback by exiting the Menu.

7.5 SHUFFLE

7.6 - INFORMATION
The Information list contains the manufacturer and device data.

Explanation of the listed items:

CUR. ESP32VER: 00.20> indicates the Ocarina FW update


CUR. STVER: 02> indicates the Ocarina processor update
MAC: xxxxxxxxxxxx > indicates the unique number of each Ocarina Verification code: (where shown) indicates the
code to identify Ocarina remotely.

8. BATTERY
Ocarina is powered by a rechargeable lithium ion battery.
When the device is turned on, it is possible to view the battery charge level through the circles on the bottom of the
display.
Recharge the device when the battery icon indicates a minimum charge level.
To recharge Ocarina, insert the USB cable connector supplied into the USB socket on the right side of the device and
connect the other end to a PC or to a mains transformer to USB for portable devices (max 5 V and 1.5 A not supplied).

Charging starts automatically and a flashing LED appears which will remain on steady when full charge is reached.
If you are charging through a not connected portable device, make sure it has a sufficient charge level.
It is advisable not to disconnect the power cable until the device is fully recharged.
To check the charging progress, check the battery fill symbol on the display.
When the last circle is full and the LED stops flashing and stays on steadily, the battery is fully charged.
To ensure good battery operations, do not recharge at high temperatures.
Full charge time is approximately 2-5 hours.

The playing time of the fully charged battery is approximately 15 hours but can vary according to the volume level and
type of file being played.

9. CONTENT MANAGEMENT

Connect the Ocarina Player to the computer using the USB-micro USB cable supplied.
The Ocarina display requests if we want to access the contents via PC, confirm with the right Arrow key to proceed.
Ocarina appears on your computer as an external device.
This means that you can transfer contents from the computer to the Ocarina Player and vice versa as on any external
memory (e.g. USB pen or Hard Disk).

9.1 - PLAYLISTS
Each folder contained in the Ocarina Player is a playlist. The folder name is the name of the playlist.
To insert a new playlist within Ocarina:
◊ create a data folder on your computer by naming it as you wish (Ocarina will show the first 11 letters of the name
assigned to the playlist)
◊ insert the desired tracks into the folder
Connect Ocarina to the computer using the supplied USB cable and transfer the folder inside Ocarina.
Ocarina supports up to 254 playlists (in addition to the MyRec Playlist for microphone recordings), each of which can
contain up to 254 audio tracks.

PLEASE NOTE:
◊ Always insert the tracks into folders. The tracks that are not inside a folder are not played.
◊ The tracks within each playlist are played in alphanumeric order.
◊ Ocarina does not display files in unsupported format.
◊ Ocarina plays files in MP3, WMA, AAC, OGG Vorbis and .flac formats.
To convert all kinds of audio files to MP3 you can use free online converters, such as
online-audio-converter.com.

tes.

10. TROUBLESHOOTING

11. RECYCLING / DISPOSAL


Please consult your local regulations regarding the recycling of electronic products.
Ocarina is lead free in accordance with RoHS specifications.

11.1 - DISPOSAL
Non-removable battery included: 3.7V 1100mAh.
Lithium battery included. Risk of explosion..
According to the D.L. 49 of 14/03/2014, the product and / or its battery must be disposed of separately.
Individuals and businesses are required to dispose of these products by taking them to the nearest collection center
specifically organized by the municipalities or body responsible for proper disposal and / or recycling.
Individuals, as permitted by the regulations in force, can return it to the retailer when purchasing a new equivalent type
of equipment or return it free of charge to the retailer in the case of small electronic waste, up to 25 cm.
The separate collection and recycling of the product and / or of the battery at the time of the disposal will help
conserve natural resources and ensure that the product is recycled in a way that protects human health and the en-
vironment.

INFORMATION FOR USERS


Pursuant to Legislative Decree No. 49 of 14 March 2014.
“Implementation of Directive 2012/19 / EU on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)”
The crossed-out bin symbol shown on the equipment indicates that the product at the end of its useful life must be
collected separately from other waste. The user must, therefore, deliver the equipment complete with the essential
components at the end of its life to suitable separate collection centers for electronic and electrotechnical waste, or
return it to the retailer when purchasing new equipment of an equivalent type, at the rate of one to one, or 1
to zero for equipment with a longest side less than 25 cm.
The adequate separate collection for the subsequent equipment recycling, environmentally compatible treatment
and disposal, help to avoid possible negative effects on the environment and health, and favors the recycling of the
materials of which the equipment is made. Illegal disposal of the product by the user involves the application of admi-
nistrative sanctions pursuant to Legislative Decree no. Legislative Decree N ° 49 of 14 March 2014.

12. WARRANTY
The warranty covers manufacturing defects for 2 years from the time of purchase.
Sindbad Srl guarantees the free replacement of the defective device. The warranty does not cover damages to the
product such as those resulting from falls, improper use, infiltration of liquids inside, opening or alteration of the inte-
grity of the device.

claim. Many problems can be solved easily by following the small steps indicated.

12.1 - Warranty limitations


The warranty does not apply to:
◊ damages caused by misuse or neglect or caused by natural causes
◊ devices that have been modified or even just opened
◊ any action other than those indicated in the User Manual

12.2 - Warranty requirements


The warranty described in this Manual is the only warranty applicable to this product.
Any other warranties, expressed or implied (including all implied warranties of merchantability or eligibility for a parti-
cular purpose), are excluded.
No verbal or written information provided by Sindbad Srl, its agents or resellers may create a form of warranty or mo-

dify the coverage of this warranty.
PLEASE NOTE: in the event of a breakdown or malfunction, the repair or replacement of the product by Sindbad Srl
is the only resolution offered to the buyer under this warranty.
The repair or replacement of the product will be at the sole discretion of Sindbad Srl.
Sindbad Srl is not responsible for any incidental or consequential damages arising from the use of the product.
Except as required by applicable law, any warranties of merchantability or eligibility for a particular purpose of this
product are limited to the warranty period set forth above.
