1. Reference Angle

The document explains the concept of a reference angle, which is the positive acute angle formed by the terminal side of an angle 𝜃 and the x-axis. It provides examples of various angles in standard position and prompts the reader to find their corresponding reference angles. The angles include both positive and negative values, as well as angles expressed in degrees and radians.

REFERENCE ANGLE

The Reference Angle

For any angle 𝜃 in standard position, its
reference angle 𝜃𝑅 is the positive acute angle
formed by the terminal side of 𝜃 and the
positive or negative x – axis
Examples:
Find the measure reference angle for the given
angle 𝜃 in standard position.
1. 𝜃 = 220° 7. 𝜃 = −35°
2. 𝜃 = 310° 8. 𝜃 = −310°
3. 𝜃 = 92° 9. 𝜃 = 669°
4. 𝜃 = 27° 10.𝜃 = 1170°
5. 𝜃 = 210°15 ′ 3𝜋
11.𝜃 = 5
6. 𝜃 = 111°11′ 11𝜋
12.𝜃 = 12
