Lesson Plan in Mathematics

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. define equivalent fractions,
b. illustrate equivalent fractions by slicing the objects,
c. relate the use of equivalent fractions in daily life by giving a
scenario,

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: Equivalent Fractions
Materials: Printed objects, Visual Aid, Cut outs
Reference: Teaching Mathematics in the Primary Grades

III. Procedure

A. Preliminary Activities

A. Prayer
The teacher will lead the prayer.
B. Greetings
The teacher greet the students.
C. Checking of Attendance
The teacher check the attendance.
D. Review
The teacher will ask the previous lesson.
E. Motivation
The teacher will introduce a game called “Sort Sticky Notes”
Procedure of the game: the teacher will group the students into
two. Then students will determine the notes wether equal or
unequal.
Mechanics : the group that finishes first will gain 50 points and the
last group will gain 30 points.

B. Lesson Proper

A. Activity

The teacher will show the pictures of equivalent fractions, and the
students will identify what are the equivalent fractions in the pictures.

1. 2.

½ 2/4

B. Analysis

 What did you do during the activity ?

 What do you observe while doing the activity?
 What do you mean by equivalent / what is equivalent fractions?
 How will you get the equivalent fraction?
 Why is it important to know equivalent fraction?

C. Abstraction

The teacher will discuss what is equivalent fraction and give examples/
scenarios of equivalent fraction.
 Equivalent Fraction- are fractions that represent the same value, even though
they look different.

Example:

Illustrate Equivalent Fractions.

D. Application
The teacher ask the students to illustrate equivalent fractions through
group activity. The teacher will group the students into 2. Group 1 will find the
missing numerator or denominator to make the fractions equivalent fraction, then
group 2 will express the fractions in simplest form.
Group 1 Group 2
1. 2/5= / 15 =10 1. 3/9
2. / 7 = 6/21 =18/ 2. 12/24
3. 36/ = 18/20 = 9/ 3. 16/20
4. 65/80= 13/ = /32 4. 15/27
5. 2/9= /27=20/ 5. 42/56

IV. Evaluation:
The teacher will an equation to the students. Direction: write on your
paper the following equation and complete the equivalent fractions.

1. 1/6= /24
2. /9= 42/63
3. 4/8= /24
4. /4=12/24
5. 9/12= 54/

V. Assignment:
Draw five examples of Equivalent Fractions.
