• To form a compound sentence, look for two sentences that make sense
together. Join the sentences with a comma and an appropriate conjunction:
• Use and to add an additional thought.
• Use but to add a contrasting idea.
• Use or to add a different choice.
• Be sure the subjects and verbs in the compound sentence agree.
For example, these two related simple sentences. You can combine them to make
a compound sentence.
Simple sentences: I can make a hamburger for dinner. I can go out for a pizza.
Compound sentence: I can have a hamburger for dinner, or I can go out for a
pizza.
