Assignment: Second Term Test (2025)

Objective:

To apply the concepts of entrepreneurship, demand determinants, and double-entry


accounting to a real-world scenario by creating a new business idea and analysing its
feasibility.

Instructions:

§ Work in groups of 3-4 students.


§ Complete the tasks for Business Studies, Economics, and Accounting separately.
§ Prepare a final presentation summarizing your work.
§ Submit all deliverables handwritten by the due date.

Tasks:

1. Business Studies: Entrepreneurship (10 Marks)

Task: Identify a new business idea and prepare a simple business plan. Your business
plan should include:

a) Business Name and Idea: Describe your business and its purpose.
b) Mission Statement: Explain the goal of your business (e.g., "To provide eco-
friendly products at affordable prices").
c) Target Market: Identify your customers (e.g., students, eco-conscious
individuals, or car owners).
d) Products/Services: List the items or services your business will offer.
e) Marketing Strategy: Explain how you will attract customers (e.g., social media
ads, discounts, or partnerships with schools).
f) Startup Costs: Estimate the initial costs (e.g., materials, equipment,
marketing).
g) Revenue Streams: Explain how your business will make money (e.g., selling
products, offering services).

Deliverable: A one-page business plan.

2. Economics: Demand Determinants (10 Marks)

Task: Analyse the demand determinants for your product/service. Explain how the
following factors influence demand:

a) Price of the Product: How will the price of your product affect demand?
b) Consumer Preferences: How do trends or preferences (influence demand?

c) Income of Consumers: How will the income level of your target market affect
demand?
d) Price of Related Goods: How will substitutes (eg: plastic water bottles for eco-
friendly bottles) or complements (eg: car wax for a car wash service) affect
demand?
e) Future Expectations: How might expectations (eg: future price increases or
shortages) influence demand?

Deliverable: A short explanation (1-2 paragraphs) of the demand


determinants for your product/service.

3. Accounting: Double-Entry System (10 Marks)

Task: Identify five transactions that could happen in your business and record their
double entries:

a) Starting the Business: The owner invests capital.


b) Purchasing Supplies: The business buys materials.
c) Taking a Loan: The business borrows money.
d) Selling Products: The business earns revenue.
e) Paying Expenses: The business covers operational costs.

For each transaction:

• State the accounts affected.


• Record the debit and credit entries.

Deliverable: A ledger with five double-entry transactions.

Final Presentation (10 Marks) :

Prepare a 5-minute group presentation summarizing your work. Include:

1. Business plan (Business Studies).


2. Demand determinants (Economics).
3. Accounting transactions (Accounting).

Submission Guidelines:

1. Submit the handwritten business plan, demand analysis, and accounting ledger as a
single document.
2. Include the names of all group members.
3. Be ready to present your work to the class.
