Not so long ago on YouTube, in the recommendations they published amazing videos
from @zesensei_draws, where he draws anime characters on paper, both classic and
recent (Chainsaw Man, Demon Slayer, That Porcelain Doll Fell in Love, Shadow Rising,
etc.).
A distinctive feature of this author is the use of auxiliary lines: step by step you
can see how a masterpiece is created, and with this technique, even a beginner in
drawing will be able to produce a good result. But the videos do not reveal all the
nuances of the technique; they are displayed in this book, which also appeared in his
videos - for example, when drawing Hymeno ("Chainsaw Man")
Unfortunately, there is no “official” Russian version of the book yet, and it is unknown
when there will be one. And the already existing French and English versions cannot be
bought in Russia due to sanctions, and, accordingly, cannot be read.
Let's fix this annoying problem. I don’t want the desires of some completely left-wing
guys to prevent artists and anime lovers from Russia and all Russian-speaking countries
from comprehending “reasonable, good, eternal.” Therefore, having received the French
version, I translated it for my personal use and am sharing my translation with you.
Of course, I consider it necessary to support the author. If possible, buy the original
book (no matter what language), and if not, support by subscribing, liking, reposting his
social networks (@zesensei_draws - link is clickable).
Of course, this book does not cover absolutely all aspects of drawing (especially color),
but it provides a very powerful basis on line drawing in manga style and the initial level of
animation. Naturally, it can and should be combined with other books/courses. One of
these, by the way, is also posted on my Boosty (https://boosty.to/zhneff). You can also
support me there if you find it possible. However, these materials are produced not for
profit, but at the call of the heart. And, if translating this book helps at least one person
become a cool artist/mangaka, etc. – I’ll be very, very happy.
I also want to say thank you to all those who help watch and develop anime in Russian -
dubbers, artists, activists, TG channels, etc. This translation is my small contribution to
this matter. Thanks guys!

Sincerely yours,
Zhneff

As in sports activities, before starting serious
physical effort, you must first warm up. The artist who started
or who resumed drawing after a long break, loses the habit
draw and do not use 100% of their artistic abilities.

So you can try the following first

exercise: try to draw these figures as
can be more precise.
Take advantage of the advice № 3 on next page.
This exercise is very important if you are just starting out.
I recommend 1 hour of drawing time for each shape.

Ïî÷åìó âàæíî çíàòü, êàê ðèñîâàòü ýòè ôèãóðû?

This will help you build a real drawing. Every
a drawing, even the most complex one, actually consists of
simple figures. The exercises you will find in this book are
will help you identify these forms and thus correctly
and easy to draw.

Draw the parts of the face — 01 Eyes

Ïððêòè÷åñêå ñîàåòû
I'll share some tips with you. Some may seem funny, but I assure you they are worth
reading because they truly had an impact on my development.

Ñîâåò № 1: âçãëÿä õóäîæíèêà

When I started drawing, I had a pretty crazy habit. Every time I met people (friends, teachers,
strangers, etc.), I tried to picture them in my head. I did the same with buildings, trees and
everyday objects. The exercise consisted of following all the contours with the eyes. So this
would be my first piece of advice: train your eyes. You don't need to go outside, you can do
the exercise in your room. Select an object or part of your body (arms, legs) and redraw the
contours in your head.
Ñîâåò № 2: èçó÷àéòå ñåáÿ
Before you can draw an object, person or other, you need to know the subject. For example,
to draw a body, it is important to know its anatomy. The muscles of the body, its behavior
under gravity, etc... Always ask about the subject you want to draw.

Ñîâåò № 3: îæèäàíèå
This tip will be more of an exercise that I suggest you master and use regularly. When you
draw, you usually move from point A to point B. If you are a beginner, your paths should
constantly deviate.

Point A Point B
Let's try to fix this. Here we will try to draw a nice straight line. Step 1. Mark the initial

and

and be more accurate. Point A

A mechanical pencil will allow you to be more precise with your lines. This will
save you time because you don't have to sharpen it like a regular pencil. When it
becomes less accurate due to wear, the tip will break and it will look like new.

Artistic cardboard will highlight your drawings. Thanks to its thickness and
durability, you can draw with ink without worrying about tearing the sheet.

An electric eraser allows you to be precise in your erasing when you want to
erase a line without touching what surrounds it.

The kneading eraser is great for making ink painting easier. This allows you to
blur the intensity of the pencil. This way you can easily visualize the ink strokes.

If you want to add beautiful colors to your drawings, arm yourself with professional alcohol markers.
This type of marker has two types of tips on each end (a wide one for shading large areas and a fine
one for detailing). There are several brands, some better than others. Keep in mind that a good
marker should blend easily with colors to create beautiful gradients.

There are professional colored pencils that will give you a nice intensity. You can also combine
colored pencils and alcohol markers. Use pencils on the character's skin or on a textured part.
Markers are used on smooth surfaces such as armor.

Pen and ink is another way to make a drawing. Drawing with a pen allows you to control line width in
real time. It takes some practice to get used to it. Manga is mostly drawn using this tool. A little trick:
once you've drawn a few lines, instead of waiting for the drawing to dry, use a roll of toilet paper and
lightly roll the lines forward to remove excess ink and get dry lines. Don't forget to remove the paper if
you want to reproduce the manipulation.

Charcoal allows you to create a pattern with great intensity. You can use it in two ways. Dry charcoal
will not have the same intensity as soft charcoal.
Pastel is used in the same way as charcoal. Oil based ones will give you a richer color than dry ones.

Whether it's charcoal or pastel, both tools need to be shaded to distribute their
colors evenly. There is a shading tool for this, available in several sizes. You
can also use it
on a pencil.

You can also use a movable puppet to serve as a reference for your character's pose.

Ó õóäîæíèêîâ åñòü is äðóãèå èíñòðóìåíòû.

In this list, I'm just introducing you to some tools that you can test out to add more
effects to your drawings. Buying good materials above all will allow you to draw
comfortably.
They don't have to be expensive. Indeed, I had already bought a very expensive
high-end pencil and was disappointed in using it. A simple pencil for 1 euro gave me
more pleasure. I invite you to watch test videos on Youtube before purchasing
materials. Personally, I buy the most expensive and the cheapest at the same time.
This allows me to check both. If the cheapest one suits me, then I know what my next
order will be. Yes, we must not forget that, although
the material is not used indefinitely, it can represent a large budget in the long run.

To place the eyes correctly, there is a very
simple trick. This three eyes rule.

Typically the distance between the two eyes is equal to the width of the third eye. It is very
important to know this rule so as not to place the eyes randomly (too far apart or too close
to each other).

ÂÍÈÌÀÍÈÅ!
This distance can be aggressive look pitiful look
reduced if you want to
exaggerate character traits.

The eyes are the most important part of the face, because they reflect the
character and emotions of the character.
For this reason, I advise you to devote the first part of your training to the eyes
before moving on to the next stage.

18

Ðèñóåì ôîðìó ãëàç, âèä ñïåðåäè

It's time to get down to business. Now that you know the basics
rules, I'll show you how to draw the shape of the eyes. The first step
is to define the drawing area.

Øàã 1
Materials: pencil 0.5 / 0.7 / or 2B

Draw a fairly large rectangle.

Øàã 2
Materials: pencil 0.5 / 0.7 / or 2B
Divide this rectangle into three equal parts.

123

The height of the rectangle is important depending on the type of eyes you want. It
will be quite tall if you want big eyes and, conversely, a rectangle will be less tall for
stretched eyes.

Øàã 3
Materials: pencil 0.5 / 0.7 / or 2B
Once the rectangle is drawn, draw an arc in the first box. Then draw the same arc in
the third rectangle symmetrically to the first.

In the beginning it is very important to work symmetrically. If you draw the entire eye at
once, you will have trouble rendering the second eye identically due to the change in
direction. This is possible, of course, but it is much more difficult.

To make things easier for yourself, draw the lines of both eyes at the same time.

19
Drawing parts of the face—01 Ãëàçà
Øàã 5
Materials: pencil 0.5 / 0.7 / or 2B
Draw a second arc on each side,
to get the basic shape of your eyes.

Øàã 6
Materials: pencil 0.5 / 0.7 / or 2B
You should place two pupils to complete the shape of your eyes. Form a

circle on each side.

Congratulations! You have just drawn the base of the eyes. This
means you've done the bulk of the work and now you just need to
work out the details.

Øàã 7
Materials: pencil 0.5 / 0.7 / or 2B
To complete the eyes, add thickness to the contours of the top of
the eye to give it definition.

If you want, you can add some eyelashes.

20
Drawing parts of the face -01 Ãëàçà
Øàã 8
Materials: pencil 0.5 / 0.7 / or 2B
Add the iris and
a little glare on the eye.

Øàã 9
Materials: pencil 0.5 / 0.7 / or 2B
When you're done, simply mark the important lines with a black marker and
erase the supporting lines.

ÏÐÈÌÅ×ÀÍÈÅ

limitless! Invent your own
style.

The scar, which I call monstrous, is larger and more pronounced.
Unlike a light scar, the damage done to the pupil is more significant.

The size of the scar varies depending on the treatment you choose to
apply. For example, it can be done on the entire face or just on a small
area.
