LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 8

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
a. Define prosodic feature;
b. Identify prosodic features; stress, juncture, and pitch;
c. Practice the use of correct stress, pitch, and juncture when delivering a
persuasive speech.

Learning Competency:

Observe the use of correct, and juncture when stress, pitch delivering a
persuasive speech.

II. Subject Matter


Topic: Prosodic Features of Speech

Materials:

Audio speakers, visual aids

III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of attendance

B. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation
Task I. What’s the stress?
● Let the students read the following words out loud
- Village
- Remember
- International
- Unbearable
- Surprising
● Afterwards, ask them the following questions:
- In which syllables did your voice rise in the word, “village”?
- What about in remember, “international”, unbearable and
“surprising”?
2. Presentation of the lesson
● The teacher will introduce the stress and its definition.

● The teacher will let the students listen attentively to the words the
teacher will say.
- PER-mit (noun) per-MIT ( verb)
- PRES-ent (noun) pre-SENT( verb)
- RE-cord (noun) re-CORD( verb)
3. Discussion
● The teacher will discuss “stress”, “juncture” and “pitch” and ask
students to read the following sentences applying the three:
- Have you seen an African child before?
- Hmmm! I think I saw one when I went to Tagaytay City last
week.
- You see, there is an international university near the city
C. Generalization
● The teacher will ask the following questions:
- What prosodic features have you learned today?
- What is stress? Stress? Juncture? Volume?
- How do you think will prosodic features affect your speech?
D. Application
● Let the students read the persuasive speech aloud.

● The teacher will remind the students to use proper stress, juncture, and
pitch while reading.

As of today, there is an alarming increase of wastes in our


community. According to Solid Waste Management Office, if we do not
take immediate action, we might face more perils caused by natural
calamities. Now, I am going to talk about how to eliminate wastes and
protect the environment. Improper waste disposal causes
environmental problems. Wastes contaminate the soil. Wastes
contaminate the water. Wastes can cause floods. There are ways to
eliminate wastes and protect the environment. Reducing, reusing, and
recycling can help eliminate wastes. People should start doing these at
home. We must act now. This solution should be supported by the local
government. Let us learn from the lessons in natural calamities we
have experienced. The body of the speech provides explanations,
examples, or any details that can help
