HIGH COURT VISIT REPORT

Purpose of Visit:

The purpose of the visit was to understand the functioning of a court and the nature of the duties
of the judicial officers. The visit was to help the student understand the role of the court in
dispensing justice in every case, the role of prosecution in a case; the way cases proceed in a
court; and the way judges, prosecutors, and defence lawyers handle the case. This gave an
opportunity to understand the actual need for co-ordination in the justice system. The aim was
to evaluate the resources available and the distribution of power between the judges,
prosecution, and defence council.

52 students from ICFAI University Baddi and 3 faculty members visited the High Court
of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla, on July 1, 2022. The students were accompanied by Asst. Prof.
Suresh Kumar, Asst. Prof. Keshva Nand, and Asst. Prof. Mamta Kumari from the Baddi
Campus of ICFAI University. The High Court of Himachal Pradesh in Shimla gave permission
for the visit, and Asst. Prof. Parveen Yadav, Head of the Faculty of Law at ICFAI University
in Baddi, was able to get that permission.

The day started with a brief note given to the students about the Hon’ble Court and court
rooms by Asst. Prof. Suresh Kumar and Asst. Prof. Keshva Nand. Both guided all the students
and explained the jurisdiction of the different Hon’ble courts. The college bus left from the
ICFAI University campus at 7:30 a.m. and reached the High Court of Himachal Pradesh,
Shimla, at 12:00 p.m. The students visited different courtrooms and observed the Hon’ble
Court Proceedings. The students were also given the opportunity of interaction with Hon’ble
Judges and eminent advocates, who enlightened the students with facts which pointed out the
difference in proceedings between the District Court, Hon’ble High Court and Supreme Court,
as well as explained the difference in jurisdiction between the District Court, High Court and
Supreme Court. After observing the proceedings of the Hon’ble High Court, all the students
proceeded towards the Mall Road, Shimla, at 1:30 p.m., where they had their lunch. All the
students were very excited to see the weather and explored the mall for at least 2 hours. At 4:00
p.m., the students were directed to gather at Scandal Point, from where they all proceeded to
the college bus located on Shimla's bypass. All the students boarded the college bus at 5:00
p.m. and started their return trip back to ICFAI University, Baddi, and reached the university
campus at 8:00 p.m, with this visit concluded.
