The document outlines a project aimed at developing a noise monitoring device using Arduino to address excessive noise in classrooms, which negatively impacts learning outcomes. The device will provide real-time feedback through visual indicators and audible alerts when noise levels exceed a set limit. The project emphasizes simplicity and ease of use, with the potential for customization to suit different classroom environments.

Objectives
 Design and build a device that uses an Arduino to monitor noise levels in a room.
 Program the Arduino to trigger an audible alert when the noise level exceeds a
predetermined limit
 The device should produce a distinct and audible alert sound when the noise level is too
high.

Background of the Study

The project focuses on addressing the issue of excessive noise in classrooms, a major problem that
negatively impacts student learning and teacher effectiveness. Additionally, this project proposes
the development of a simple and effective noise monitoring device using an Arduino
microcontroller.

Problem Statement: Excessive Noise in the Classroom

The detrimental effects of classroom noise pollution on student learning and teacher morale
are well documented. Noise pollution in classrooms can have several negative impacts in terms of
efficiency of learning.

 The constant noise makes it incredibly difficult for students to focus on their work, leading
to decreased attention spans and difficulty processing information.
 Difficulty for teachers to communicate effectively, Due to the loud sounds produced by
talking, slamming, or moving of furniture. Teachers can have a hard time engaging with
their students.
 High noise levels can contribute to disruptive behavior among students. When they are
constantly distracted and unable to focus, they are more likely to act out or become
disengaged.
 Prolonged exposure to high noise levels can lead to hearing problems and other health issues,
particularly for young children who are still developing their auditory systems.

SOLUTION

To effectively reduce classroom noise, a sound device/detector can be implemented.

A device that Monitors Noise Levels in Real-Time. A built-in microphone will detect sound levels
in the classroom. Use an LED Strip or Display. The brightness or color of the LEDs will change
based on the noise level Provide Immediate Feedback Students and teachers can instantly see when
the noise is too high and adjust their behavior accordingly. This simple device will make the
classroom quieter and better for learning. Beyond the immediate visual feedback, the system could
be expanded to incorporate additional features. For example, an audible alert could be triggered
when the noise level exceeds a pre-determined setting. The system's design prioritizes simplicity
and ease of use. The device should be modest, blending seamlessly into the classroom
environment.

However, the system will be
customizable and flexible so
that the user can adjust or select
a specific decibel level for the
device to react with. This is

only a demonstration for what it
is supposed to look like. The
colors can be changed also.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Arduino, an open-source electronics platform, has become the go-to option for anyone working on
interactive hardware and software projects. An Arduino board (such as the Uno) connected to a breadboard
with plugins such as inputs, sensors, lights, and displays can be controlled by a code written in the Arduino
development environment. How to achieve this is by prototyping with Arduino. Prototyping with Arduino
has grown in popularity with the increased use of the Arduino platform. Prototyping with Arduino, however,
is not an easy task for nonprogrammers with interest in the field. With increased public interest in the field
will come a need for accessible information (Kondaveeti et al., 2021).

According to Marín-Marín, García-Tudela, and Duo-Terrón (2024), the Arduino board is considered a
valuable technological educational resource in secondary education, fostering computational thinking and
enabling the development of transversal, interdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary projects across various
educational stages.
