Gothic architecture, a byproduct of the Dark Ages in France, is commonly found in churches and

chapels. Its design focuses on three essential characteristics: to ascend, to brighten, and to lighten.
Gothic churches are known for their massive size and stature, with towers, elongated finials, and
intricate spires representing religious ideologies. They also feature large windows, flying buttresses,
varying sheens of paint and woodwork, and pointed arches to create an illusion of weightlessness.
Gothic churches and chapels are not just about design, but also about the history and ideas behind the
style (Dudac, 2023) - Dudac, Y. (2023, January 26).

Features of chapel

Chapels are significantly simpler and smaller than churches. The exterior often lacks spires on the roof.
Inside, they may feature a balcony between the floor and the ceiling to provide the congregation with
extra area to sit. The chapel's inside elements are primarily designed to hear God's word and shout his
praises. The primary pulpit or lectern is located at one end, from which the pastor will read the Bible. In
front of the pulpit, there will be a modest table for Holy Communion. The organ is an essential
component of any chapel. It is used to enhance hymn singing. There is also a baptismal pool in Baptist
chapels. The baptistery is located in front of the seats, with a door covering it. This is where adults are
baptized (Features of Chapels, n.d.).

Data-gathering Procedure

The researcher gathers information through interviews and surveys. The researcher had face-to-face
interviews or evaluations with the head administration and the other members of the chapel, which led
to the researchers having a rigorous understanding of the state condition and situation of the church.
The information gathered is valuable for the researcher to address the problem that must be resolved
and fixed. The researcher also gathered data through dimensional surveying, wherein the researcher
managed to measure every dimension of the chapel.

Instrument of the study

The researcher effectively implemented a significant questionnaire for acquiring relevant information
about the church. Additionally, dimensional surveying enables the researcher to have an in-depth
visualization of the chapel. These instruments guide the researcher to attain the vital information
needed for the renovation of the church.
