Vocabulary: This aims to present some musical instruments. Ask students to look at the instruments
and read through their names. Explain to students that they will hear music being played by each of
these instruments. They must number the musical instruments in the order in which they hear them.
Play the CD as many times as possible. Check the answers with the class. Ask students if they play
any of these musical instruments, which musical instrument they would like to play.
Reading: This helps the students to make predictions about the reading text based on visual prompts.
Also, they will know vocabulary and the functions presented in the lesson in context. Ask students to
look at the picture of the band Full Blast and explain that the four band members are the main
characters in the book. Draw students’ attention to the name of the band. Explain to students that the
phrase full blast means as loud as possible. So, the choice of the name is indicative of the music the
band plays. Play the CD and ask students to read and follow in their books.
Grammar: This will present and give students practice in using What…? and Who…? Ask students to
read through the short dialogue. Ask them what they notice about the question words. Refer students
to the Grammar Reference on page 116. Have students do the activity. Check the answers with the
class.
Listening: Explain to students that they are going to listen to four teenagers and that they should
match their names with the pictures 1-4. Ask them to look at the pictures and tell you what they see.
Play the CD twice. Check the answers with the class.
Speaking: This aims to give students practice in using the structure, the functions and the vocabulary
presented in the lesson through a group survey. Ask students to read through speech bubble. In groups
of four, students take turns to ask and answer the questions about themselves and the other people in
their group with regard to their music preferences. Go around the class helping students when
necessary. Choose some groups to act out the dialogue and some students to report their group’s
answers to the class.
