(MEA).
Teacher Registration: All teachers must have teacher registration, provisional registration or a permit to teach
issued by the ACT Teacher Quality Institute prior to starting their employment.
Child Protection: All employees of the School must be eligible to work with children in accordance with ACT
Working with Vulnerable People checks.
The Role
The Assistant Head of Department role represents an important curriculum leadership position within the School. As
the Assistant Head of Mathematics, you will provide critical support to the Head of Department in leading the
department to deliver quality teaching and learning experiences for all students. You will provide leadership for the
staff within the department, will deputise for the Head of Department if necessary, and will assist in overseeing the
management of the curriculum, programmes and associated administration matters as set out below. You will actively
engage with and deliver the School’s Learning and Teaching priorities, supporting schoolwide CPL as necessary. The
role includes (but is not limited to) the following duties:
Duty Statement
• Liaise with the Head of Department to achieve the strategic priorities of the school
This will include:
o assisting with the implementation and monitoring of courses, including regular updating of schemes
as necessary
o developing a system that will allow for continuous improvement for all programmes within the
department
o managing the appropriate documentation of programmes, including unit outlines and ATLAS and
o ensuring CGS-Connect material is of good quality, reflects excellent Learning and Teaching practises,
is accurate and complete
o assisting with the running of Department CPL
• Plan for and lead Department meetings when the Head of Department is unavailable or in Academic
Leadership Meetings
• Support the incorporation of ICT into learning programs and the sharing of teaching and learning strategies
within the Department through team meetings, CPL sessions and Department meetings

• Supporting course team leaders to enact the CGS vision through planning and engaging in professional
conversation to reflect, review and revise approaches to teaching and learning and to programme design
• Provide feedback to the Head of Department on changes implemented and communicate with the Head of
Department on relevant emerging issues
• Assist with the annual staff Professional Growth Cycle process
• Perform any other role identified and deemed necessary by the Head of Department or the Director of
Academic Education and Director of Teaching Development
