Time, Speed and Distance-4

The document presents various problems related to boats and streams, focusing on calculating speeds, times, and distances in different scenarios. It includes examples of rowing upstream and downstream, as well as interactions between boats moving towards each other. Each problem requires understanding the relationship between the speed of the boat, the speed of the stream, and the time taken for various journeys.

Boats and Streams

Session 4
The speed of a boat in still water is 6 km/hr and the speed of the stream
is 1.5km/hr. A man rows to a place at a distance of 22.5 km and comes
back to the starting point. Find the total time taken by him?
A motorboat covers a certain distance downstream in 6 hours but takes 8
hours to return upstream to the starting point. If the speed of the stream
be 6km/hr. Find the speed of motorboat in still water?
A man can row 40 km upstream and 55 km downstream in 13 hours. Also
he can row 30 km upstream and 44 km downstream in 10 hours. Find the
speed of the man in still water?
A boatman goes 2 km against the current of the stream in 1 hour and
goes 1 km along the current in 10 minutes. How long will he take to go 5
km in stationary water?
A man can row ¾ of a km against the stream in 11 ¼ minutes
and return in 7 ½ minutes. Find the speed of the man in still
water?
The speed of a boat while moving downstream is 7 km/hr and
the speed while moving upstream is 5 km/hr. And the ratio of
the speed of the boat in still water to the speed of the stream?
Two boats travelling at 5 km/hr and 10 km/hr, head directly towards each
other. They begin at a distance of 20 km from each other. How far apart
are they (in km) one minute before they collide?
