Activity 1: Integrity in a professional context (20 min)

Trainees will read the following scenario and answer the below questions in groups
Scenario 1: One of your employees has just been diagnosed with a treatable form of cancer.
He has confided in you about the status of his health. He has also asked you not to say a word
to anyone because he considers his health to be a personal matter. Over the next few months,
this employee is absent frequently, especially during his radiation treatments. His absences are
not a major problem for the company because his duties involve direct computer work which he
can do while at home. However, some of your other employees have asked you what's wrong
with him. You politely decline to discuss his situation. As a result, the other employees think that
their co-worker is getting special treatment, and are ready to go to your boss to complain. You
are confident that if they only knew of the employee's illness, they would understand. But you
promised him not to reveal the reason for his absence. At the same time, it would create
unnecessary and unhelpful problems for him if other employees complain about him.

Questions:

● Should you reveal to your employees the reason for their co-worker's absence? Why or
why not?
● Should you explain to your boss what is really going on?
● How would you handle this situation?

Activity 2: Scenario 2 (20 min)

Joseph was born in a family of 12 sons, he was the eleventh son. Because he was one of the
youngest sons, his father spent more time with him, and he became very special to him. His
brothers got so jealous they couldn't even say a kind word to him. One day, when they were far
from the father they decide to sell him into slavery.

Joseph was sold by the merchants to a high-ranking Egyptian named Potiphar. Joseph excelled
at his duties, became one of Potiphar’s most trusted servants, so Potiphar made him his helper,
and put him in charge of everything that he owned.

Joseph was a strong and handsome man. After some time had passed, Potiphar's wife saw that
Joseph was handsome. She said, ‘I love you too much, come to bed with me!’ but Joseph
refused to do that. He said, ‘My master does not need to think about anything in the house. I
take care of everything that belongs to him, no one has more authority in this house than I do.
My master keeps nothing from me, except you. That is because you are his wife. I could not do
such a bad thing to him!
But every day the wife continues telling him that she loves him and requests him to bed with
her!
Questions:
1. What are some examples from the scenario of a lack of integrity?
2. If you were Joseph what could you do and why?
