MAJOR AND MINOR DETAILS

• Major details are general ideas that support the main idea of a text.
• Minor details are specifics that illustrate or support the major details.
• For example:
• Not everybody should be allowed to have a gun. This is because, certain people abuse
the privilege of being able to have a gun easily. For example, they use guns to commit
crimes such as robbery and burglary.
• Can you identify (i) the stated main idea, (ii) the major detail, and (iii) the
minor detail?
