TYPE OF STRUCTURE
STAAD Pro is capable of analyzing and designing structures consisting of the
both frame and plate shell elements.
STRUCTURE GEOMETRY & CORDINATE SYSTEM
A structure is an assembly of individual components like beams, columns,
slabs, plates etc.in the STAAD Pro frame elements and plates elements may be
used to model the structural components. Typically modeling of the structure
geometry consists of 2 steps.
i. Identification and description of joints or nodes
ii. Modeling of members of element through specifications of
connectivity between joints.
STAAD Pro uses 2 type of co-ordinate system are associated with each member
and are utilized in MEMBER FORCE output on local load specification.
GEPMETRY
The Gepmetry option allows the user to create the structure geometry and
to modify it.
i. Add member / element : used to create new member and / or elements
In the model.
ii. Break all : allows the user to split intersecting members in the model.

3
4
Prismatic property of the following commands is used to specify the section
shape and additional properties.
Built in section library : this feature of the program allows the user to specify
the section name of structural steel of standard shapes, manufacture in
different countries.
User provided steel sections : The user can provided a customized steel table
with designated steel names can find the member properties.
Tapered section : Properties of tapered I section may be provided through
member properties specification.
Constants : The material constants are modules of elastic, weight ,density,
beta angle, global axes. Supports are specified as pinned, fixed or fixed butt
with different releases.
MEMBER SPECIFICATION
The member specification option allows specification of the structural
condition of individual members and elements in structure. The specification
are:
Member offset: Some members of a structure are at an offset distance from
the incident joint. Any reference from the start or end of that member will
always be from the new offset point.
Member release : one or both of a member or element can be released by
removing the individual degrees of freedom from analysis.
Truss /tension member : when all members in the structure are truss member,
the structure type is declared as truss whereas only some of the member are
truss member.
LOADS
STAAD Pro can generate the self-weight of the structure and use it as a
uniformly distributed member loads in analysis loads in structure can be
specified as
Member load : these are uniformly distributed loads and linearly verifying
loads & may be applied directly to a member of a structure.
Joint load : Joint loads both faces &moments, may be applied to any free joint
of a structural member frame

5
6
Load combination specification : Tis command may be used to combine the
result of the analysis.
ANALYSIS
Following analysis facilities is available in STAAD Pro
1. Stiffness analysis
2. Second order analysis
3. Dynamic analysis
STIFFNES ANALYSIS
The stiffness implemented by STAAD Pro is based on the matrix displacement
method. In the matrix analysis of structures by the displacement method, the
structure is first idealized into a small assembly of discrete structural
components. The complete stiffness matrix of the structure is obtained by
symmetrically summing up the contribution co various member and the
element stiffness. The external leads on the structure are represented as
discrete concentrated loads acting only on modal points of the structure. The
total number of degree of freedom represents the number of unknown in the
analysis. The solution of equation done with modified colicky decomposition
technique.
RESULT
The features of STAAD Pro were studied.

49
Manual Calculation:
A rectangular reinforced concrete beam, located inside a building is simply
supported on two masonry walls 230 mm thick and 5m apart (Centre to
Centre). The beam has to carry, in addition to its own weight, a distributed live
load of 10 KN/m and a dead load of 5 KN/m. Design the beam section for
maximum moment at mid span. Assume Fe 415 and M25 concrete.
Assume a trial cross-section
b = 230
D = span / 10 = 5000 / 10 = 500
Distributed load due to self-weight
= 25 x 0.23 x .05
= 2.875 KN/m
Self-weight
= 5 x 2.875
= 14.375 KN
Factored load
= 1.5 (DL + LL) = 1.5 (3.125 + 5 + 10)
Wu = 26.8125 KN/m
Factored moment
M u = W u x l2 / 8
= 26.8125 x 52 /8
Mu = 83.789 KNm
For Fe 415 steel, Mu lim = 0.1389 fck bd2
For M 25 concrete, fck = 25 Mpa
R lim = Mu lim / bd2
= 0.1389 x 25
= 3.4725 Mpa

50
d min = Sqrt (Mu / (R lim /b))
= Sqrt (83.789 x 106 / (3.4725 x 230))
= 323.898 mm = 325 mm
Assume, Dia of primary bars = 20 mm, Dia of secondary bars = 8 mm &
Clear cover = 30 mm
D = 325 + 30 + 8 + (20/2) = 373 = 375 mm
Based on the new D value, d= 327
Determining Ast :
R = Mu / bd2 = 83.789x 106 / (230 x 3272) = 3.4069 Mpa
Pt / 100 = Ast / bd = fck / 2fy x (1-sqrt (1- (4.598 x R) / fck))
= 1.171 x 10-2
Ast = 1.171 x 10-2 x 230 x 327 = 881 mm2
RESULT:
The design of the given single beam using STAAD Pro is done.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Project management process includes the functions of management which

are performed by managers to achieve the desired objectives.
Following are the important managerial activities done by the project
manage
1. Schedule Work as a Task More Precisely
We can fine-tune resource adjustments in several ways. You can make the
number of resources. Determine the amount of the work is needed on a task
based on how many resources are available to work on it.
If work on a task will be done incrementally you can show when a resources
will stop and start work again by splitting the work into the segments also, we
can show how much time per day a resource will work on a task using different
presets patterns. Such as a late peak bell.
2. Balance Resources Work Load
After assigned resource to yours tasks, check our scheduling for resources
that have too much or little work. If some resources are over located, see if
adding more resources to an assigned task or reassigning a task will give better
result.
If not other resources are available to help we can change the specific
working days and how, when resources are available to work.
3. Show the Relationship with Other Projects
If we manage more than one project or an individual project or an individual
project that is part of a large plan, we can consolidate into one file to help us
see and manage all information at one time. We can insert project into any
level of another project outline to reflect relates to each other in the real world
When we working with multiple projects some task in our project may
depend on task in one project. We can simply link task in between the
individual files to updates both files when changes occur. We can also link
tasks across project in a consolidate project or between separate projects.

59
4. Slavering the Resources Across the Project
We can use the same resources in different projects, and view update
resources information across all the projects. When we are working with
multiple projects that use the same resources, we can create a resources pool
through which all the project can share their resources.
5. Track the Actual Progress of the Task
On we set up the projects and work has begun you can keep track of actual
start and finish dates, the task percentage complete and actual work.
Tracking actual show you how changes affect other task and ultimately the
project finish date. The detailed information can also give you real data to plan
future project.
