3. Writing appropriate units, nomenclature, and drawing neat sketches/schematics wherever required is an
integral part of the answer.

Section A 60 Marks

1. Explain ISO quality systems.


2. Explain preventive maintenance.
3. State the role of an Industrial Engineer in shop floor.
4. Define the zero defect concept.
5. Differentiate between production management and Industrial engineering.
6. List various Therblings and their use in method study.
7. Product layout is better than process layout. Do you agree with this statement?
Justify.
8. Differentiate between quality assurance and quality control.
9. Why performance appraisal is important for achieving organizational goals?
10. An 8 hours work measurement study in a plant reveals the following: Units produced =320 nos. Idle
time = 15%. Performance rating = 120%. Allowances = 12% of normal time. Determine the standard
time per unit produced.
11. Discuss the three major causes for the fire in industry. Classify the different types of fire.
12. A firm has four work centres, A, B, C & D, in series with individual capacities in units per day shown
in the figure below.

(i) Identify the bottle neck centre. (ii) What is the system capacity? (iii) What is the system efficiency?
Section B 40 Marks

1. State the need and types of Job-evaluation.


2. State the differences between method study and work measurement with their
objectives
3. Discuss the hazards associated and safe handling in thermal power plant.
4. What is plant location? Discuss the need for plant location. What are the steps
involved in selecting a location for automobile industy?
