la Proclamation del Pueblo de Filipino

I.
Philippines asserted their independence on June 12, 1898, in Cavite
province. Truly, this event marks a major change in the country's history as it
marked the conclusion of 333 years of Spanish colonization. Despite the
historical significance of the document and the information it discloses about
the reasons and events of the historical day in Cavite, this fact remains true.

II.
Interestingly, examining the specifics of the mentioned document later
reveals the type of government established under Aguinaldo, as well as the
future involvement of the United States in the early years of the new
republic. Following the Battle of Manila Bay, Filipinos and Spaniards continued
to engage in small battles in different provinces across the Philippines.

III.
The purpose of the Act of the Declaration of the Philippine
Independence was to inspire Filipinos to resist the Spaniards. On June 12,
1898, Aguinaldo officially announced Philippine Independence in Kawit,
Cavite.

IV.
The playing of the Philippine National anthem, composed by Julian
Felipe with lyrics from Jose Palma's poem Filipinas, symbolically accompanied
it. Simultaneously, Ambrosio Bautista perused the document written in
Spanish. The declaration was never acknowledged by the United States of
America.

V.
The conflict between the U.S. and the Philippines stemmed from a
misunderstanding of the Philippines' independence declaration. After initially
supporting them in the Spanish-American War, the U.S. decided to control the
Philippines instead of granting independence, leading to the Philippine-
American War.
