1)The ratio of the number of apples in Box A to the number of apples in Box B is 3 : 2. All the
apples in Box B are green. The ratio of the number of green to the number of red apples in Box A
is 4 : 5. There are 20 more green apples in Box B than in Box A. How many red apples are there?

2)Daniel had 40% more stickers than Brandon. Daniel and Brandon each gave 20% of their
stickers to Calvin. As a result, Calvin's stickers increased by 80%. If Daniel has 20 more stickers
than Calvin in the end, how many stickers did Brandon have at first?
3)At a bakery, muffins are sold at $1 each. When a customer buys 5 muffins, she can buy one
more at half the price. What is the greatest number of muffins that a customer can buy with $20?

4)Both Joanne and Joseph had an equal amount of money at first. Every month, Joanne spent
$850 and Joseph spent $912. After a few months, Joanne was left with $1550 while Joseph had
4/5 as much as Joanne. How much money did Joseph have at first?

5)When a number is divided by 8, the quotient is 121 with no remainder. What is the remainder
when the same number is divided by 9?
6)School P has 180 more pupils than School Q. If 60 pupils are transferred from School Q to
School P, there will be 4 times as many pupils in School P as School Q. How many pupils are
there in School P?

7)During a travel fair, 120 families chose Switzerland as their holiday destination. 80% of the
remaining families chose Australia while the rest chose Japan. If 10% of all the families at the
travel fair chose Japan, how many families were there at the travel fair?
8)At a birthday party, Mr Chew had a bag of sweets. If each child receives 5 sweets, he is left with
6 sweets. If each child receives 7 sweets, he would be short of 4 sweets.

b) How many sweets did Mr Chew give to each child if he is left with only 1 sweet?

9)A teacher has a bag of sweets. If she gives each pupil in her class 5 sweets, she will have 20
sweets left. If she gives them 8 sweets each, she will need to buy another 88 sweets. How many
pupils are there in the class?

10)Lamp posts are placed round a square field measuring 60 m by 60 m. The lamp posts are
placed 10 m apart with a post at each corner. How many posts are needed in all?
11)Eight identical 5-cm cubes are placed in an empty rectangular tank of length 75cm and width
40cm. The tank is then filled with water running from a tap at the rate of 9 litres per minute. It takes
11 min to fill up 2/3 of the tank.

a) How much more water is needed to fill up the tank to its brim? (Express your answer in litres)
b) Find the height of the tank.

12)When Mrs Lee was 40 years old, her son was twice her daughter’s age. Mrs Lee will be twice
her son’s age when her daughter is 28 years old. How old will Mrs Lee be when her daughter is 20
years old?

13)Mrs Toh bought some chocolates to distribute to her class. If each child gets 2 chocolates, she
would be left with 40 chocolates. If each child gets 4 chocolates, she would need 30 more
chocolates.
