Adolescence - It is the period of development that begins at puberty and ends at emerging

adulthood.

Development It is the process of growing or changing into a more advance, larger and stronger
form.

Challenges - It is defined as something that needs great mental or physical effort in order to be
done successfully and therefore tests a person's ability.

Erik Erikson - He is the proponent of the Psychosocial Developmental Theory

Robert J. Havighurst - He proposed that stages in human development can best be thought of in
terms of the developmental tasks that are part of the normal transition.

Thoughts - These are impression activated by a stimulus in your mind that is evident from the
environment that you are in.

Feelings - These are emotions that can be experienced in varying degrees of intensity and
usually have a physical sensation attached.

Behavior-These are the actions we take that can be classified as right or wrong, healthy or
unhealthy, appropriate or inappropriate.

Physical Actions

These are the observable actions we make.

Non-Verbal Cues It refers to the subtle expressions, posture, eye contact, and physical proximity.
Language - These are the words we choose, the tone we use, and the structure of our verbal
communication.

Vocal Delivery - The nuances of our speech, including pitch, volume pace, and emphasis.

Cognitive Triangle - It represents the interconnectedness of thoughts, feelings, and behavior.

Actions - These are the results of the bodily reaction we made based on our feelings.

Self-awareness - It is an understanding of oneself as unique from others.

Self-esteem It is your evaluation of your own worth. It may be positive or negative.

Positive Self-esteem It is the valuation that is pleasing and acceptable according to your
standard and that of others.

Negative Self-esteem - It is the opposite which is feeling distraught or down and unaccepted by
others.

Self-Concept - This contains many positive thoughts and we will have high self-esteem if we
have completed an important task, done something that we believe is valuable or important, or
if we feel accepted and respected by others.

Self-Efficacy - It allows people to effectively manage problems and achieve desired outcomes.

Performance Experiences - If you are good at achieving your specific goal, then you probably
think that you will achieve it again. When the opposite happens, if you fail, you will often think
that you will fail again
Vicarious Performances If others achieved their goal or specific task, then you'll come to believe
that you will also achieve your goal.

Verbal Persuasion - It is when people tell you whether they believe or not on what you can do or
cannot do. The effect of your self-efficacy will depend on how that person matters to you.

Imaginal Performances - It is when you imagine yourself doing well, then it will happen.

The Affective States & Physical Sensations if your mood or emotion (eg. shame) and physical
state (e.g. shaking) come together, it will affect your self-efficacy.

Self-Development It is a process of discovering oneself by realizing one's potentials and


capabilities that are shaped over time either by studying in a formal school or through
environmental factors.

Know Thyself It is an old maxim or aphorism which in time has been used in varied literature
and consequently gained different meanings.

Thomas Hobbes He discussed his own views about the maxim from which he used the phrase
"read thyself in his famous work The Leviathan.

Self-Concept It is one's abstract and general idea about him/herself particularly toward his/her
unique personality and his/her own perception about his/her set of values, point of views and
behavior.

Id-It is to satisfy man's desire without thinking much of the situation.

Ego It gives a more socially accepted means of getting the desires and wants of a person
without getting to hurt others feelings.

Superego It holds our moral judgments or concept of right and wrong that are believed to be
acquired from the family and the environment.

Knowing Oneself-It the beginning of all wisdom according to Aristotle.

Rene Descartes He states that mind is the seat of consciousness.Most people tend to decide
based on the intuitions and available information that could be a hindrance in making a wise
decision.
