Teachers Role Students Responses

A. Preliminary Activities

A very good morning to all of you! Welcome

to a new and exciting Mathematics lesson! I
am Teacher Anamay Porlas, but you can call
me Ma’am Ana. I will be your Mathematics
teacher for Grade 4. Good Morning Maam Ana, Good Morning
Classmates!
•Prayer
Before we begin our fun learning activities,
let us all stand for a prayer. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the
Holy Spirit. Amen.

• Attendance Checking
If present: “Present!”
Calling the names of the students one by If absent: (No response or a classmate may
one, noting who is present and absent say, “Absent.”)

• House Rules
Reading the rules and regulations during the Students are listening and taking note the
class session rules all throughout the discussion.
B. Developmental Activities

Motivation

Direction: Inside the four different boxes,

there are certain number of blocks.
Pick the estimated number of blocks
that can fit in each box based on their different
volumes. Choose the answer from the box. Yes Ma’am!
Understand kids?

A: Contain 5 Blocks
B: Contain 10 Blocks
C: Contain 15 Blocks
D:Contain 20 Blocks

.
Follow-up Questions:

Q1. What factors influenced your estimate of

the number of blocks that the container
could hold? The estimate was influenced by the
container’s volume and the size of each block.

Q2. How does the size of the container affect

the number of blocks it can contain? A larger container can hold more blocks,
while a smaller one has limited capacity.

Q3. Aside from size, what other factors

might impact the capacity of the container? Shape of the blocks, arrangement inside the
container, and any empty spaces affect
capacity.

C. DISCUSSION

Understanding the volume of rectangular

prisms is a fundamental concept in geometry
that helps us determine the space an object
occupies. This knowledge is essential in
various real-life applications, such as
packing, construction, and design.

Definition of Volume
Volume measures the amount of space
inside a three-dimensional object. It’s
expressed in cubic units, indicating how
many unit cubes can fit within the object.

Rectangular Prism
A rectangular prism is a solid figure with six
faces, all of which are rectangles. It has three
dimensions: length (l), width (w), and
height (h).

Finding the Volume

To calculate the volume of a rectangular
prism, use the formula:
V= L x W x H
Where represents volume, is length, is
width, and is height.
Units of Measurement
Cubic Centimeters (cm³): Used when
dimensions are in centimeters.
Cubic Meters (m³): Used when dimensions
are in meters.

Example:

Ana is preparing a donation box filled with

school supplies for students in need. She has
a rectangular box with the following
dimensions:
Length = 8 cm
Width = 3 cm
Height = 2 cm

She wants to find out how much space the

box can hold before she starts packing the
supplies.

Solution: Using the Volume Formula:

V=lxwxh

Substituting the given values:

V = 8cm x 3cm x 2cm
V = 48cm³

The volume of the donation box is 48 cubic

centimeters (cm³). This means Ana can fit up
to 48cm³ worth of school supplies inside the
box. Knowing the volume helps her estimate
how many notebooks, pencils, and other
supplies can fit inside, ensuring that she
maximizes the space efficiently.
D: ASSESSMENT

Directions: Read each scenario carefully.

Identify the missing dimension (length,
width, or height) using the given volume and
other measurements. Use the volume
formula:
V=lxwxh
Write your final answer with the correct unit
of measurement.

1. A toy maker is designing a small

V = 5 cm × 4 cm × 3 cm → V = 60 cm³
rectangular box for building blocks. The box
has a length of 5 cm, a width of 4 cm, and a
height of 3 cm. What is the volume of the
box?

2. A farmer is building a small water tank for

V = 10 m × 2 m × 2 m → V = 40 m³
his plants. The tank has a length of 10 m, a
width of 2 m, and a height of 2 m. What is the
volume of the tank?

3. A baker is storing cupcakes in a

V = 6 cm × 5 cm × 2 cm → V = 60 cm³
rectangular container. The container has a
length of 6 cm, a width of 5 cm, and a height
of 2 cm. What is the volume of the container?

E: ASSSIGNMENT
Instructions: Look for a rectangular object
in your house (e.g., a box, a book, a
cabinet, or a refrigerator). Use a tape
measure or ruler to measure its length,
width, and height. Then, compute its (If yes, then I’ll make clarifications, if
volume using the formula: V = l x w x h. none then I’ll dismiss the class.
Write it in your Mathematics notebook.
Any qestions clarification class? Good bye Ma’am and classmates!
