2. The definition of terms must be included in the study because in this part of the
research, the keywords that are mostly found in the research or are words that are
related to the subject, are given definition. This also clarifies the words, ideas, and
concepts that are unfamiliar to both the readers and the researcher/s.
3. Researchers have to set the limitations in their studies in order to have validity,
accuracy, and credibility with the results of the study. Having limitations also give an
opportunity for other researchers to investigate further concerning the subject matter.
Additionally, researchers are just humans, and they have their own boundaries that
they can’t surpass. Therefore, the study must only be restricted to the actions that
they can do, the goals that they can achieve, and the things that they have access to.
WHAT I CAN DO
A
1. An article from Good Therapy (2019) states that academic performances are
greatly affected by academic concerns such as lack of proper attention from school
officials, bullying at school, inability to pay for schooling or lack of financial means,
disinterest in topic of study, confusion about or misunderstanding of topic of study,
procrastination and time management issues, underachievement in studies, or
learning disabilities or difficulties. Sometimes, these are be reversed wherein
because of pressure in academics, students develop mental issues like anxiety,
depression, and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
2. A blog post on NoPlag (2017) says that math phobia is when someone feels
fear or anxiety once faced with a mathematical problem that needs to be solved.
Apart from anxiety, some people call math phobia a tension, panic, helplessness,
and mental disorganization.
3. Procrastination can also be a factor that contributes to the focus of the study.
A study on academic procrastination and mathematics achievement by Akinsola M.
K., Tella, A., and Tella, A. (2006) tell that nowadays, procrastination is a common
among students especially those at the higher level. This phenomenon is doing
more harm to their academic achievement, especially in Mathematics subject, than
good.
Another factor that contributes to the study is the teacher. School teachers’
math anxiety has been found to play a role in their students’ math achievement.
The use of certain particular strategies of math teacher mould the students’ math
achievement and their insights about Math (Ferguson, R., Hooper, S.Y., Kersting,
N.B., Ramirez, G., & Yeager, D., 2018)
5. The aim of the study is to understand and give information regarding how
fear of solving Mathematics problems impact a student's academic performance.
B
Title of the Study: The Impact of Fear in Solving Problems in Mathematics on the
Academic Performance of Grade 12 STEM of Kidapawan City National High School
This study will let the parents be informed of the pupils' situation on
Parents why there are some who are failing or have a low grade in
Mathematics.
C
1. The topic of the study is the relationship between the fear of students in
Mathematics and their academic performance. Therefore, the variables included are
the students’ academic performance and the student’s fear in Mathematics.
2. The study focuses on understanding the effects of certain difficulties in learning
to the students’ academic performance. Researching this subject will give everyone
knowledge about how impactful the fear of students in Mathematics to how they
perform in school. This will also give an opportunity for people to come up with
solutions concerning the issue.
3. Since there is a pandemic, the researcher plans to conduct interviews via online
video calling applications like Google Meet, Zoom, or whatever is convenient for the
respondents, so that health and safety protocols will still be followed.
4. The study will be conducted on April 22-23; Thursday and Friday.
5. The research will use a correlational research design, and to get answers from the
respondents, an interview will be conducted by asking a set of questions from a
questionnaire.
