In the digital era, students have access to various tools designed to enhance writing productivity and improve
the quality of academic work. Among these, ChatGPT, Grammarly, and WPS Office stand out as notable
resources, each addressing specific aspects of the writing process. As Mighty Union (2023) explains, these
tools "make it easier to create polished, professional materials efficiently."

ChatGPT

Overview:

ChatGPT is an AI-driven language model that facilitates the drafting and refinement of text. It assists students
in brainstorming, structuring arguments, and developing coherent essays by analyzing writing styles and
suggesting improvements.

Practical Application:

Consider a student tasked with writing an academic essay. The student provides ChatGPT with a sample of
their writing style for analysis. ChatGPT then offers suggestions to enhance clarity and engagement. As the
student gains an understanding of the topic, they request ChatGPT to help outline the essay and draft its initial
version, which is tailored to their style. The draft is subsequently refined based on teacher feedback and
personal preferences, with further assistance from ChatGPT.

Grammarly

Overview:

Grammarly serves as a comprehensive grammar-checking and writing enhancement tool. It identifies errors in
grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style while suggesting improvements in sentence structure and tone.

Practical Application:

After completing the first draft with ChatGPT, the student submits it to Grammarly for a thorough review.
Grammarly highlights grammatical errors, punctuation mistakes, and issues with sentence structures. The
student also seeks to improve the tone of the essay to ensure it meets academic standards, while Grammarly
checks for potential plagiarism. Following the suggested corrections, the student revises the draft in
accordance with the teacher's guidelines.

WPS Office

Overview:
WPS Office is a versatile office suite that offers advanced formatting tools, enabling students to create
professional documents. It features customizable templates, tables, charts, and various visual elements for
enhanced document structure.

Practical Application:

Upon refining the essay with Grammarly, the student uses WPS Office to finalize the document. They select an
appropriate template and incorporate relevant tables and charts to support their arguments. WPS Office
assists in making the document visually cohesive and organized, ensuring consistency in font styles and
formatting before submission.

Comparison and Contrast: Strengths, Limitations, and Suitability of Communication Technologies

Strengths:

ChatGPT excels at content generation and assisting with the initial stages of writing. Grammarly is outstanding
at enhancing the grammatical accuracy and readability of a document. WPS Office stands out in document
formatting, offering excellent tools for creating professional-looking documents with tables, charts, and
templates.

Limitations:

Each tool has its limitations. ChatGPT, for example, "struggles with maintaining a formal tone and correcting
nuanced grammatical errors" ( Mighty Union, 2023) ). Grammarly, though exceptional at grammar and tone
correction, is not designed to generate content or provide creative input in the drafting process. WPS Office,
while great for formatting, does not assist with writing or revising the content itself.

Suitability:

ChatGPT is best suited for the drafting and brainstorming phase of writing, Grammarly is most useful for
grammar and tone adjustments after a draft is complete, and WPS Office excels in final formatting and
presentation.

Conclusion
This comparison shows how ChatGPT, Grammarly, and WPS Office can be used in tandem to create a polished
and well-structured academic essay. Together, they provide an efficient workflow for students aiming to
produce high-quality written work. As Mighty Union (2023) aptly notes, "At the end of the day, using an AI
writing tool is just one piece of the content creation puzzle."
