 Infrastructure & China Factor: India and Mauritius signed a 2015


agreement to improve connectivity, including the development of Agalega
Island. However, concerns have been raised about potential military use, which
both nations have denied.

 Indian Development Projects: India has funded numerous projects in


Mauritius, with $1.1 billion in assistance, including grants and credit lines.
Various people-centric projects have been undertaken.

 First Responder Role: India has consistently helped Mauritius during crises,
including the COVID-19 pandemic and environmental disasters.

 Trade & Investment: Mauritius is India’s second-largest source of Foreign


Direct Investment (FDI) for 2023-24. A 2021 agreement strengthened bilateral
cooperation, particularly in trade and maritime security.

 Security & Special Partnership: India assists Mauritius in security through


information sharing, defense support, and telecommunication initiatives,
reflecting their deep diplomatic and strategic partnership.
