1. You are planning to take up an English course. You write an email to the
manager of an English center near your house to ask for some
information about the course. In your email, you mention:
• Special course for IELTS Academic
• The cost of the course
• When the course begins (in December if possible)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing in connection with the offer I received from your center. First of all, I
would be grateful if you could provide me with the detailed information concerning
your offer of English courses.
I am particularly interested to know whether you organize specialized courses in
accordance with IELTS Academic. Another matter I need information on is whether you
will be able to organize a course for my unit in December. What is more, could you tell
me about the duration and the course outline of this course? Also, I would like to know
if the learning materials include in the cost package.
Finally, I would also like some information concerning the cost of this course. Due to
the fact that our budget is tight, I would be much obliged if you could offer a reasonable
price. In addition, we’ll sign up the course in a group, so is there any special discount?
I am looking forward to your reply and I would appreciate it if you could inform me
as soon as possible.
Yours faithfully,

2. You would like to participate in a work-related seminar
in another country. Write a letter to the person in charge
of the seminar and ask for detailed information regarding
the dates, program, accommodation and cost.
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing in connection with your seminar. I hope that you would provide me with
these details as soon as possible so that I can book my seat for the workshop.
Regarding dates and time, the seminar schedule was not mentioned in the advert.
Hence, I would like to know the duration and schedule of the workshop so that I can
apply for work leaves. Is there any prerequisite to attend the seminar? If so, what are
they?
Concerning program details, can you please tell me about the topics and speakers of
the program? I am wondering if there is any special consideration for the registered
attendees and if there will be any hands-on or will it be just a theoretical session? In
addition, I would like to know if there is a tea break time during the seminar?
Finally in terms of the cost, can you suggest some good hotels in the area with an
indicative price? That will help me in planning my travel, accommodation and cost of
the trip.
I would appreciate for your information. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

1. Dear Jackson,
I am writing this letter to extend my sincere thanks to you for the hospitality and kindness that
you gave me when I moved to your city.
First of all, I am much obliged to you for your timely help in terms of my accommodation. It was
very kind of you to allow me to stay at your house for a week, which assisted me a lot in attending
the training course. Actually, when I was informed about the training program, it worried me that I
could face difficulty in seeking an appropriate living place in a strange city. However, I was lucky
to receive your assistance.
In addition, there are no words to express my gratitude to you for the generous hospitality your
whole family showed to me. It was great to enjoy delicious meals in a cozy atmosphere with all of
you. Moreover, I could experience a memorable time when you took me to some fascinating
destinations and participated in exciting activities with me during the weekend.
During my one-week stay at your home, I felt like a member of your family, therefore, I miss
all of you so much after returning to my house.
I sincerely hope someday in the future when you pay a visit to my city, I could repay you for
your kindness.

including roasted chicken and pasta which were the best home-cooked dishes I've
ever tasted.
In addition, besides the meal, I favored the cozy atmosphere and space at your
house. Your family members were not only outgoing but also hospitable, which made
me feel at home. Not only that, the music you turned on during the meal was very
relaxing and ear-catching, creating a pleasant atmosphere.

1. You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
You recently ordered an item online but when it arrived, it was damaged.
Write a letter to the company that sold you the item. In your letter:
• give details about the order you made
• explain what was wrong with the item
• tell the company what you want them to do about it
You should write at least 120 words. You do not need to include your name or
addresses Your response will be evaluated in terms of Task Fulfillment,
Organization, Vocabulary and Grammar.
Dear Sir,
I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with an online product I
purchased in your company. I have been a loyal customer for many years and
until this incident never had any complaints.
I placed the order of a laptop HP from your website on 15 January 2022 and
the order number is 25H-2207. I was excited about receiving it but I must
inform you how shocked I was when I unwrapped the package. It was
unfortunate that the laptop screen had some scratches which made it look
terrible. The most serious problem is that the laptop is running too slowly, which
affects my work badly. All of these things make me feel extremely unpleasant
and frustrated.
I think the best way to solve this problem is to replace it with a new one.
I hope you will address these issues promptly.
Yours faithfully,
Nguyen van An
2. There have been some problems with the public transport you use
to commute every day.
Write a letter to the manager of the public transport company. In your
letter, you should:
- Describe the problems
- Explain how these problems are affecting you and others
- Suggest some changes which could be done
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to draw your attention to some critical issues of your transportation service
that commuters use on a daily basis.
I take your buses to commute to and from my workplace every day. Last week, your buses
made some delays which led to my late arrival in my office. To make matters worse, the
buses were so overcrowded that I could not seek a seat. As a result, some passengers and I
had to stand in the central aisle of the buses during the whole journey. We placed a
complaint against these problems to your staff members. However, they could not give any
reasonable explanation. These troublesome issues really made commuters feel disappointed
and frustrated because they impacted our work and mood negatively. Also, this partly
decreased our trust in your transport service.
I would much appreciate it if you provide more transport to accommodate commuters
during rush hours. Moreover, I recommend that you manage bus timetables more efficiently
to limit unexpected delays.
I hope you will address these issues promptly.
Yours faithfully,
Nguyen Van An

PRACTICE
1. One of your friends organized a birthday celebration, but you
missed it and forgot to tell your friend that you couldn’t attend.
Write a letter to a friend. In your letter:
• Apologize for missing the birthday celebration.
• Explain why you missed it
• Say what you would like to do to show you are sorry.
Dear Anna,
First and foremost, congratulations on your birthday. I hope that you enjoyed an
unforgettable time at your birthday celebration.
I am deeply sorry that I did not show up at your party to celebrate it with you. It was
my fault to not tell you in advance that I wasn't able to attend the celebration and this
might make you feel disappointed.
I could not attend because I suffered from a terrible flu last week. I had serious
symptoms including high fever, headache and fatigue. These symptoms were so
severe that I couldn't do anything but lie in bed. Moreover, I had a feeling of
exhaustion and discomfort during the whole previous week. This is why I was absent
from your party and didn't contact you to tell you about my absence.
I hope that you'll forgive me for being so thoughtless. Also, I hope you'll let me
make it up to you. To make up for it, I would like to invite you to go to the cinema
this weekend.
Best regards,
Hannah
2. For the past six days, you were late for work because of some
unavoidable issues at home.
Write a letter to your manager explaining why you were late for work for
several days. In your letter, you should:
• Explain why you were late
• Apologize for going to work late
• Assure your manager that you will be on time from now on
Dear Sir,
I am writing to give an explanation why I did not go to work on time during the past
few days. But more importantly, I would like to apologize for arriving at the office
late.
Last week, I encountered some problems which led me to be late at work. First of
all, I had to take my daughter who suffered from a cold to the hospital for some
check-ups. To make matters worse, my husband was away on a business trip.
Therefore, I had to handle all household chores and manage childcare on my own,
which made my entire previous week very hectic.
It is fortunate that now my mother assists me in doing housework and taking care of
my children. Hence I am assured that I will be punctual from now on. I sincerely ask
for your forgiveness and hope that you will accept my apology as well as my
explanation for this incident.
Yours faithfully,
Nguyen Van Anh

reading it yet? Why do you keep it too long?....
