Articles (A, An, The)

Articles are small words that come before a noun. There are three articles in English: A, An, and
The.

1. Indefinite Articles: A & An

We use A and An when talking about something general or not specific.
- A is used before words that start with a consonant sound.
Example: a cat, a ball, a house.
- An is used before words that start with a vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u).
Example: an apple, an elephant, an orange.

Special Cases:
- We use 'an' before words that start with a silent 'h'.
Example: an hour, an honest man.
- We use 'a' before words that start with 'u' sounding like 'you'.
Example: a university, a useful tool.

2. Definite Article: The

We use 'The' when talking about something specific or unique.
- Before something we already know.
Example: The sun is bright.
- Before the names of rivers, seas, mountains, and famous buildings.
Example: The Padma River, The Eiffel Tower.
- Before things that are only one in the world.
Example: The moon, The sky.
- Before superlative adjectives.
Example: The tallest building, The best player.

3. Articles and Countable & Uncountable Nouns

- Countable Nouns: Can be counted (e.g., apple, book, car).
- Use 'A' or 'An' for singular countable nouns.
Example: a pen, an egg.
- Use 'The' when referring to something specific.
Example: The book on the table.
- Uncountable Nouns: Cannot be counted (e.g., water, rice, air).
