The document outlines an assignment focused on exploring data relationships through correlation and linear regression using Microsoft Excel. Students are instructed to analyze variables related to age and blood pressure or heart rate, generate random samples, and perform various statistical tasks including calculating correlation coefficients and regression equations. Submission requires an Excel file with calculations and visualizations, along with a document containing snapshots of the methods used, due by March 6, 2025.

Title: Exploring Data Relationships: Correlation and Linear Regression in Excel

Objective: Understanding the relationship between two variables, learning how to compute
correlation and regression in Excel and interpreting results to make informed decisions.
Instructions
1. Software Requirement-Use Microsoft Excel.
2. Data
 Odd Roll Nos. will work on variables- X: age and Y: trestbps
 Even Roll Nos. will work on variables- X: age and Y: thalach
3. Random Sample Generation:
 Each student should create a random sample from X and Y with sample size or no. of
observations=20+ (sum of digits of your roll no.) Eg. If Roll No=45, then 20+(4+5) =29
4. Assignment Tasks
Part A: Correlation
1. Import the given dataset into Excel.
2. Capture the screenshots showing the formula/command used to generate the random
samples from both the variables in the dataset.
3. Create the scatter plot to represent the correlation between the two variables.
4. Calculate the correlation coefficient.
5. Include a screenshot of formula of correlation coefficient.
6. Interpret the type of correlation (positive, negative, no correlation) and degree of
correlation (strong, moderate, weak).

Part B: Linear Regression

1. Identify the average relationship between the two variables for the given samples using
linear regression.
2. Provide the equation of both regression lines X on Y and Y on X by using different
scatter plots.
3. Provide coefficient of determination value on the scatter plot.
4. Interpret the meaning of coefficient of determination.
5. Answer questions:
(a) What is the estimated value of X when Y= 90.
(b) What is the estimated value of Y when X= 64.
#Submission Guidelines
- Submit a zip folder that include
-Excel file with calculations, graphs, and answers.
- a word/pdf document with snapshots of formulas or tools used for each calculation.
- File name format: SectionNameGroupRollNo_Activity3 for all files.
(Eg. K23XXA01_Activity3)
- Deadline: [06Mar2025]
# Evaluation Criteria
Accuracy of statistical calculations, Correct use of Excel functions, Quality of visualizations,
Report clarity and completeness, Honest submission.
