RRB ALP CBT 2 - Part B (Electrician) Notes

1. Basic Electricity

- Ohm's Law: V = IR
- Power: P = VI = I^2R = V^2/R
- Energy: E = P x t (kWh)
- Kirchhoff's Laws:
- KCL: Sum of currents at a junction = 0
- KVL: Sum of voltages in a closed loop = 0
- Series Circuit: Same current, Voltage divided
- Parallel Circuit: Same voltage, Current divided

2. Electrical Materials & Components

- Conductors: Copper, Aluminum


- Insulators: Rubber, PVC
- Resistors: Fixed, Variable (Potentiometer, Rheostat)
- Capacitors: Stores charge, improves power factor
- Inductors: Opposes changes in current
- Fuses & MCBs: Protect against overcurrent
- Relays: Electromagnetic switch

3. Electrical Machines

(a) DC Machines:
- Generator Types: Separately Excited, Shunt, Series, Compound
- Motor Types: Shunt, Series, Compound
- Back EMF: Eb = V - IaRa
- Speed Control: Armature Control, Field Control

(b) Transformers:
- Step-up & Step-down based on turns ratio
- Efficiency = (Output Power / Input Power) x 100
- Losses: Copper Loss, Iron Loss (Hysteresis & Eddy Current)

(c) AC Machines:
- Induction Motor: Single Phase, Three Phase
- Speed Formula: Ns = (120f) / P
- Slip = (Ns - N) / Ns x 100%
- Synchronous Motor: Runs at synchronous speed

4. Wiring & Earthing

- Wiring Types: Cleat, Casing-Capping, Conduit


- Wire Colors: Phase - Red, Yellow, Blue; Neutral - Black; Earth - Green
- Earthing Types: Pipe Earthing, Plate Earthing
- Circuit Breakers: MCB, MCCB, ELCB
