Through the shadow cast by the brim of his hat, his well-shaped lips came
into view. The cigarette dangling slightly from his lips seemed somehow
obscene. Wooyeon fixated his gaze on the reddish lips as he slowly began to
speak.
There was a faint scent of pheromones, though it wasn’t Dohyun’s. It was the
artificial scent of the cigarette he was smoking, nowhere near the natural
pheromones emanating from him.
Wooyeon only raised his eyes to ask Dohyun. Dohyun, pulling the hat off his
head, held a cigarette between his index and middle fingers. With a puff, the
smoke dispersed into the air.
It seemed Dohyun could ask for just about anything and it would be fine—
whether it was a favor, an errand, or even borrowing money. The ones
startled by this were the others.
“Geez, you’re gonna make him your errand boy or something after this,
aren’t you?”
“I didn’t think you were like this, hyung.”
“If you talk like that, people will just keep tiptoeing around you.”
Without saying a word, Dohyun shrugged his shoulders. His gaze briefly
passed over Wooyeon. Garam inhaled deeply from his cigarette, exhaling the
smoke toward the sky.
"Speak your mind. If you don’t want to drink, say so. If a senior tries to assert
dominance, just threaten to post about it online. What era are we in for that
crap? That guy will be a nobody in the real world.”
After finishing his rant, Garam loudly cursed “Kim Jin-sang, you jerk,”
prompting everyone nearby to turn and look. Despite the attention, no one
else dared to join in.
“And here I thought I was the only one doing the dirty work, and this guy
tries to back out,” Garam grumbled.
Without hesitation, Garam swiped at the back of Dohyun’s knees, though
Dohyun casually dodged and brushed his damp hair away from his forehead.
Wooyeon couldn’t help but think those words were directed at him. He also
thought Dohyun seemed annoyed. His usually gentle eyes and neatly
groomed brows carried a slightly uneven edge.
“Why bother with all this in college when you’ll face it again in society?”
“Hyung...”
“Come on...”
Wooyeon was thankful Dohyun had pulled his cap down. His face was
burning, and he was sure his expression had twisted awkwardly. Though he
wanted to thank him naturally, he feared his emotions would spill out the
moment he opened his mouth.
Anyway, for some reason, all the drinks sent to Wooyeon tonight were
intercepted by Dohyun. Garam’s bravado-filled muttering faded into the
background. Wooyeon was far more focused on one thing: the fact that
Dohyun had cared for him.
---
The drinking party had been going for two hours. Those still interested in
playing drinking games gathered in the living room, while others stayed at
the dining table. Though Wooyeon wanted to sit at the table, he ended up in
the living room with the freshmen.
---
The alcohol kept coming, and so did the drinking games. Wooyeon often
found himself targeted by the senior students, leaving Garam to absorb the
damage on his behalf.
“Did she do something for you, Garam? Why are you so desperate?”
Slurring slightly, Garam chuckled before muttering:
---
Wooyeon stared blankly at the cup and whispered, “Do you think I look like
the kind of person who would party a lot in high school?”
Dohyun, tilting his head, took the cup. Without waiting for an answer, he
asked:
