I. Introduction

A fundamental part of learning is undoubtedly reading. If you can't

simply read a narrative or paragraph clearly, it will be tough to
understand the thinking or idea it contains. In order to attain learning, this
challenge needs to have a solution. Reading comprehension and skill can
be improved through certain English practices.

II. Best Practices

1. Simulation games – offer a model of some situations (reality) and thus

allow students to learn about that situation vicariously through
competition cooperation, empathy, research skills, critical thinking and
decision making.

2. Scanning – helps the students to search for the specific information he

wishes to get from the material such as finding the meaning of a word in a
dictionary, finding statistic information in tables, charts and finding
answers from text.

3. Spelling- Spelling is a fundamental part of any written form

of communication. Good spelling is essential for effective
communication and helps us express our thoughts accurately.

4. Loop-A-Word – to add to the variety of activities in the classrooms, an

educational game may be used. It will also provide interest to the student
as they perform a learning activity.

5. Role Playing – this requires students to form teams to debate issues of

interest. Within their team they will select roles to play. (e.g. adviser,
housewife, economist) and present their side during the actual debate.

6. Story Telling- is the act of sharing a story or narrative with others, using
words, actions, or visual images. It can be done orally, in writing, or
through other forms like drama or film, and often involves conveying
ideas, emotions, or experiences to entertain, inform, or teach of pupils
and teachers.
