Math 8 Lesson Plan

This lesson plan for Grade 8 Mathematics focuses on teaching students about conditional statements, specifically the relationship between hypotheses and conclusions in if-then statements. The lesson includes activities for students to identify and rewrite declarative statements into if-then form, with real-life applications. Assessment involves worksheets to evaluate students' understanding of the concepts taught.

LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 8

GRADE & SECTION: Grade 8 – H, R, F, I, G

TIME: 11:50 AM – 5:25PM
DATE: December 9, 2024
NAME OF TEACHER: Shielica A. Tattari
I. CURRICULUM CONTENT, STANDARDS, AND LESSON COMPETENCIES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate the key concept of logic and reasoning

B. Performance The learners are able to communicate mathematical thinking with

Standards coherence and clarity in formulating and organizing arguments.
C. Learning The learner illustrates a relation and a function (M8AL-IIc-1)
Competencies 1. Determine the hypothesis and conclusion of a declarative
and Objectives statement.
2. Rewrite declarative statement into an if-then statement
3. Relate the skill to real-life scenarios such as from current
events, science, literature, etc.
D. Content Conditional Statements (If-then statements)
II. LEARNING RESOURCES
Self-Learning Module - Quarter 2-Mathematics: Grade 8, Module 9: Determining the
Relationship Between the Hypothesis and Conclusion of an If-then statement

III. TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCEDURE

A. Introduction 1. Daily Routine: Greet students and take attendance.
2. Motivation/Review:

Write a simple scenario on the board

"If it rains, then the streets will be wet."

Ask:
What causes the streets to be wet or what is the condition?
What is the effect or what is the outcome?

B. I Do 1. Explain declarative statements: 

It is a sentence that conveys information, provides a fact, makes a

statement, or offers an explanation.and these can often be restated
as conditional statements to show cause-and-effect relationships.

2. Defining Hypothesis and Conclusion:

Hypothesis: The "if" part of the statement, which presents a condition.

Conclusion: The "then" part of the statement, which describes the result
or effect.

Example 1:

Declarative Statement: "A plant grows well when it gets enough sunlight."

Identify the condition (hypothesis):

"A plant gets enough sunlight."

Identify the result (conclusion): "A plant grows well."

Rewrite as an if-then statement:

"If a plant gets enough sunlight, then it grows well."

Example 2:

"The Philippines experiences typhoons because it is located in the Pacific

Ring of Fire."
Example 3:
"Plants need sunlight to perform photosynthesis."

Hypothesis: "Plants have sunlight."

Conclusion: "They can perform photosynthesis."
If-Then Form: "If plants have sunlight, then they can perform
photosynthesis."

Example 4:
"Romeo risks his life to see Juliet."

Example 5:
"A number is even if it is divisible by 2."
C. We Do Work with the class. Identify hypotheses and conclusions before
transforming into if-then statements
1. The moon orbits the Earth because of gravitational force.
2. The sum of the angles of a triangle is 180 degrees.
C. You do Provide a worksheet with declarative statements.
Instructions: Identify the hypothesis and conclusion and transform
the statement into an equivalent if-then statement.

1. Fans react strongly when Maris is involved in controversies.

2. A relation is a function if it passes the vertical line test.
3. x - 4 = 5 if x = 9.

IV. EVALUATING LEARNING: FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT AND TEACHER’S REFLECTION

Provide a worksheet with declarative statements.
Evaluating
Learning Instructions: Identify the hypothesis and conclusion and transform
the statement into an equivalent if-then statement.

1. A number is negative if it is less than zero.

2. An angle is a right angle if it measures 90 degrees.
3. x + 3 = 5 given that x = 2.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Research and write 5 if-then statements related to Geometry
