I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
• Identify the technical terms used in research (EN10V-IVa-30);
• Appreciate the essence of knowing and familiarizing the technical terms
used in research. (EN10V-IVa-30); and
• Develop a research title or topic about the significant issues in the
society. (EN10V-IVa-30)

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Distinguish Technical Terms Used in Research
B. Reference/s:

Learning Activity Sheet English 10- Quarter 4, Week 1
C. Learning Materials: PowerPoint Presentation, Blackboard, Chalk and
printed materials.

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

A. Preliminary Activities

a.1 Greetings
Good Morning Class!
Good Morning Ma’am!
a.2 Prayer
Let us pray first.
(Student will volunteer and lead the prayer)
a.3 Attendance
Leaders, do we have absentees today?
(Leaders from each group will tell if there is
absent)
Thank you. It’s good to hear that no one is absent
today.

B. Preparatory Activities/Motivation

For today, the class will be divided into two teams

Group 1- Data Finders

Group 2- Truth Seekers

Each team must abide by these Class Rules

Throughout the whole session this morning.

Please read.

Class Rules
S – Stay with your group
M – Make sure you listen
A – Always try your best
R – Raise your hand
T – Talk gently do not shout

You are all expected to follow these rules for you

will all be rewarded with these gold coins.

But if the rules were not abided, I will give the team
a wax badge that indicates a minus point in their
respective scores.

The total scores of the activity that each team has

participated in will reflect here in our scoreboard, at
the same time the obedience of each group will be “Yes, Ma’am.”
monitored here on our behavioral chart.

Are my instructions clear, class?

b.1 Review

Before we proceed to the discussion for today let us

first check your understanding of the previous lesson.

This time, I will let you play a game and the game is
called “4 pics & 1 word”

I have here a pictures which contains the technical

terms discussed last meeting with their respective
definitions. All you have to do is match the pictures “Yes, Ma’am.”
with the technical term with its corresponding
definition from the scrambled letters. I need
volunteers from each group to do this task and be
here in front to choose their answers using a chalk.
Do you understand?
Very good! It seems that you have really
understood our previous lesson. Let’s give
ourselves a round of applause.

C. Lesson Proper
In today’s lesson, you are expected to:
•identify the technical terms used in research
•appreciate the essence of knowing and familiarizing
the technical terms used in research
• develop a research title or topic about the
significant issues in the society

Now, class, I have here two pictures of prominent

figures in the field of science with their contributions
to society. First, let’s have

Alexander Graham Bell

What do you think is the problem during Alexander

telephone?

Very good! Alexander Graham Bell invented the

telephone because, during his time, there is a
problem with communication. It takes days and even
weeks for someone to receive the information they
needed thus the invention of the telephone is a
breakthrough in solving the communication barrier
and connecting people from distant places.

Next, we have these two scientists.

What do you think is the problem they were able to

solve because of their discovery?
The problem that they were able to solve is
the prevention of the growing cases of Covid-
19 infections.

Ugur Sahin and Ozlem Tarici

Pfizer Vaccine

Precisely! Ugur Sahin and Ozlem Tarici were the

lead scientists that develop the first vaccine for
Covid19. It was because of them that the people
were able to combat the deadly effects of the virus
and help the society to function with fewer
restrictions and fears of being infected. No, Ma’am.

Do you think these scientists were able to solve the

problems in society overnight?
They’ve conducted a research, Ma’am.
What do you think is the method or strategies
they’ve used to come up with the solution to the
problems they’re facing?

Excellent! Scientists' foundation to come up with

answers or solutions to problems existing in the
society is through Scientific investigation or
Research.

It is quite interesting to solve our problems with

research, right? Now, for you to become a
researcher, you have to act and think like one. That is
why you should be familiar with these technical
terms used in research.

of the main topics covered or a re-statement
of your research problem, but a synthesis of
key points and, if applicable, where you
recommend new areas for future research.
Thank you. Now here is an example of conclusion.

Example of Conclusion
- As addressed in my analysis of recent
research, the advantages of a later starting
time for high school students significantly
outweigh the disadvantages. A later starting
time would allow teens more time to sleep--
something that is important for their physical
and mental health--and ultimately improve
their academic performance and behavior.

Based on my discussion, it was mentioned that a

them into the context of the overall research.
It brings together all the sections that came
before it and allows a reader to see the
connections between each part of the research

Do you think the presence of a conceptual framework
is important in a research paper? Why or why not?

The presence of a conceptual framework is

important in a research paper since it provides
a graphic and visual representation of how
concepts and elements in a study are related.

Very good!

that you need to remember okay?
None Ma’am.
Do you have any question?

If that’s the case, that will ends our discussion.

IV. Application

To test if you have understood our lesson, we will

have an activity. This activity is called “Ay Okay!
Research yarn? Or Research Yarn”

For the mechanics, each team will have 6

representatives. The said representatives will identify
if the statements that I’ll be presenting are the
technical terms used in research or not. But there is a
twist, instead of saying “True” you will say “Ay
Okay! Research yarn. On the other hand, if the
statement is incorrect or false, you will say “Ay
Okay. Research yarn?”

The team that garnered the highest score in this

activity will be declared the winner. Are you guys
ready?
Answers

6. Reference list all the sources used in the research. 6. Ay Okay, Research yarn!

Wow, it seems that you have really understood our

lesson for today and I am very happy about it.

V. Generalization
Now, class, I would like to share with you this
picture.

What can you observe from the image? It shows how a plant/flower grows.

How can you compare research in the process of

growing a plant/flower?

Researching is like growing a flower. For you

to make it bloom, you have to know the
gardening tools, the right fertilizer, and the
best-cultivating methods for it to grow
healthily. Just like in research, you need to be
familiar first with the terms and their
functions to craft a study or investigation.
Research cannot be completed overnight just
like how a flower cannot grow within a day.
That is why you as researchers must be
patient and dedicated in doing your best in
conducting such a study just like how farmers
or gardeners patiently wait for the perfect
time for their flowers to grow and be picked.

VII. Assignment

For your assignment, in ½ sheet of paper, write a short essay (1-2 paragraphs) about the importance of
knowing research technical terms as a student researcher.

Annotations: John Dewey believed that learning was socially constructed, and that brain-based
pedagogy should place children that curriculum and institutions at its center. Effective learning
required students to use previous and (prevailing) experiences to create new meaning that is, to learn.
