Narrative Report: Orientation on Rapid Mathematics Assessment

Date: March 6, 2024
Location: BLDG-11 PPP II /San Vicente Elementary School, Sto.Tomas City, Batangas
Presented By: Nelia T. Sagario/Mathematics Coordinator
Attendees: Students, Educators, Mathematics Enthusiasts, Community Members
Introduction
The increasing emphasis on mathematical literacy in education prompted the
implementation of a comprehensive Rapid Mathematics Assessment (RMA) program at San
Vicente School. The purpose of the RMA was to quickly identify students’ mathematical
strengths and weaknesses, enabling teachers to tailor instruction effectively and enhance
overall learning outcomes. This report documents the objectives, methodology, results, and
recommendations based on the RMA conducted in the academic year 2024-2025.our
organization hosted an orientation event on March 6, 2025, to engage and inspire participants
in various communities to understand the impact of mathematics in our world, its cultural
significance, and its role in shaping our future.
Objectives
The primary objectives of the rapid assessment were to:
1. Identify Students’ Proficiency Levels: Determine the mathematical abilities of
students across Grades 1 to 3.
2. Tailor Instruction: Gather data to help teachers customize their teaching strategies and
interventions.
3. Monitor Progress: Establish a benchmark to monitor student growth over time.
4. Engage Stakeholders: Inform parents and the community about students’ performance
and areas needing improvement.
Methodology
1. Design of the Assessment Tool: The assessment was a combination of multiple-
choice questions and practical problem-solving tasks, covering key areas such as
arithmetic, geometry, algebra, and data analysis. The format was designed for rapid
administration, allowing each student to complete the assessment within 30 minutes.
2. Administration: The assessment was conducted in the first week of June 2025.
Teachers administered the tests in their respective classrooms, ensuring a standardized
approach to minimize disruptions.

3. Scoring and Analysis: Assessments were scored immediately after administration.

Data were compiled and analyzed using statistical software to evaluate overall
performance and identify individual and group trends.
The Program
The orientation commenced at 10:00 AM with a warm welcome by Ma’am Nelia T.
Sagario who set the stage for an inspiring day ahead. A brief introduction outlined the
history and purpose of Rapid Mathematics Assessment. Regardless of their background or
experience and it aims to promote greater appreciation and understanding of mathematics
across the globe. Activities and events often focus on how mathematics plays a crucial
role in various aspects of life and the world around us.
Keynote Speakers and Sessions
The orientation featured several engaging sessions led by noted mathematicians and
educators, including:
1. “The Beauty of Mathematics in Nature” - presented by Ma’am Lita M. Magsalay,
our dedicated and supportive principal who captivated the audience by illustrating
how mathematical patterns, such as Fibonacci sequences and fractals, are manifest in
nature, from the growth of plants to the structure of snowflakes.
2. “Mathematics in Technology” - led by Ma’am Nelia T. Sagario, a passionate
mathematics coordinator, where real-world applications of mathematics in technology
were discussed. The session included examples of algorithms, data encryption, and
artificial intelligence, demonstrating how mathematics drives innovation and progress.

Results
The results of the RMA highlighted both strengths and weaknesses in students’ mathematical
abilities:
 Overall Performance: 75% of the students scored above the passing threshold,
indicating a generally solid grasp of basic mathematical concepts.
Recommendations
Based on the findings of the RMA, several recommendations were proposed to enhance
the mathematical learning experience at San Vicente Elementary School:
1. Targeted Interventions: Implement targeted support programs for students struggling
with algebraic concepts and data interpretation. After-school tutoring sessions and
small group activities could be beneficial.

2. Professional Development: Provide teachers with professional development

opportunities to deepen their understanding of teaching challenging mathematical
concepts effectively.
3. Parental Engagement: Organize workshops for parents to familiarize them with the
curriculum and ways to support their children’s mathematical learning at home.
4. Follow-up Assessments: Conduct follow-up assessments biannually to monitor
progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed. The next assessment is
recommended for early June 2025.
5. Curriculum Adjustment: Review and adjust the existing mathematics curriculum to
incorporate more real-world problem-solving tasks and applications, especially in
areas where students demonstrated weaknesses.
Conclusion
The Rapid Mathematics Assessment proved to be an invaluable tool for understanding
the mathematical abilities of students at San Vicente School. While the overall performance
was encouraging, targeted interventions are essential for addressing specific weaknesses to
foster a more robust mathematical foundation. By implementing the recommendations
provided, the school can aim to elevate the overall proficiency of students and ensure they are
well-prepared for future academic challenges. Continued assessments and adaptive teaching
strategies will play crucial roles in this ongoing process.
